I have always acted as a hobby and have quite a bit of experience, so I would really like to continue that in college. However, I think a BFA would be too rigorous for me, so I’m interested in either the BA program, and in that case I would like to double major in Communications, or major in communications with a theater minor.

So I want to know how easy it is to double major, would it be impossibly difficult? And also, is there an audition required to minor in theater? And what is the BA in theater acceptance like?

Hi! I’m looking to transfer into USC for BFA acting and I was wondering how difficult it is for transfers from out of state to get in. Also, I was looking to either double major or minor in Econ. Do you think either would be possible there? Thanks so much!

Mochio, it is quite possible to double major in BA Theatre plus Communications, especially if you will be entering with credits from AP classes. You can look up the courses required for each major (pay attention to the total number of units for each major you are considering), plus add the GE, writing and language reqs and get an idea of how it works. This is not an option with a BFA since the req’d number of units is much higher and the courses must be taken in specific sequence.

Mille, transferring to a BFA program in theatre means you will, alas, start over as a freshman. In the BFA program you move through the class sequence with all the BFAs of your year and there is no way to jump in in the middle. If you have no problem with spending four more years in college, give it a try! As I said above, it is normally not possible to double major with a BFA. However if you are transferring in with a lot of units, it may be possible to fit in a minor since you have 4 years to take care of it. The BFA program in SDA takes a lot of time, both in the classroom and outside as well.
