Ask me questions about Northwestern!

But any off-campus housing is so close, does it really make a difference? And many upperclassmen and upperclasswomen are in the frats and sororities which are on campus.

"Can Weinberg students write/become editors of the newspaper, or is that too limited to Medill students? Can Weinberg students pursue a second major or a minor in Medill?"

and a host of magazine options are student run with no quid pro quo about who ends up on the editorial staff, production staff, or in front of a camera. Obviously, Medill kids constitute the largest number but only by virtue of their interest, not "favoritism."

Regarding second majors/minors - yes, commonly - primarily in WCAS - probably most popular (and easy to pursue) are history, english, international studies, political science.

"Also, I noticed that only 60-ish% of students live on campus. Does that ruin the social dynamic after freshman year as people start to go off campus?"

It probably IMPROVES the social dynamic. Kids at most colleges are usually DESPERATE by junior or senior year for independence from RA's and university supervision in housing units. Some colleges will offer their own apartments or houses (profiting off these arrangements). In these circumstances, even if just off campus, these will still be considered "on campus" for the sake of the numbers you see. Dorm and frat parties graduate to apartment and house parties for upperclassmen at most colleges. This adds to, rather than detracts from, the social scene adding another element to weekend options.

At Northwestern, there are a ton of off-campus choices from walk ups, to private homes, to garden apartments, to luxury high rises located to the south and west of the school. The range in pricing is pretty broad, but the Chicago/Evanston market is a relative bargain in comparison to many other large cities and even to some small college towns that have limited housing stock (as in prices get jacked up for the desperate students with few options - e.g. Ithaca). Generally, as you get close to the El tracks the noise and shaking rise as rental prices drop. A bargain so long as you're a sound sleeper.

most kids store with Campus Solution for summer or during study abroad. Since it is run by current Northwestern students and pretty much dominate the entire market, students usually free trusting their peers and friends instead of creepy 40 year old movers with a mustache…not sumer if I can post links, but here’s their website, or you can just google Campus Solutions. [Campus Solutions - Home](http://www.nucampussolutions.com/)

Yea, mini fridge can be as cheap as 40 bucks, so it’s probably easier to buy. Or you can check out facebook and craigslist because a lot of students sell their old fridge or 15 to 30 bucks.

Hope that helps!

Since those questions are nearly 4 years old…

I’ve lost all respect for Campus Solutions. Arbiter, I don’t know if you know this, but CS is only doing this because they have a new competitor ([BoxCo. - Storage made simple at Northwestern University](http://www.nuboxco.com)) that caught them off guard. Boxco is cheaper and CS is trying to push every avenue they can in order to brand their experience as more “trustworthy”.

Ouch- so vicious…cubecul! I am assuming you have friends working for BoxCo? Congrats on the new business venture! I actually think it’s great for NU kids to start new business and that’s why I supported Campus Solution in the first place, because they are a very successful student run business and the fact is, they have been around as long as I’ve been on campus. But really, no need to get negative. I know the founder of BoxCo and I have friends working for Campus Solution. I actually love BoxCo’s red color… it’s nice and bright and cheerful. As I said in the other post, good luck!
