Scholarships first go towards loans, then work study, and then they don't really do much except for take out of what NU is giving to you (e.g. you have $5000 in loans, $2000 in work study, $5000 EFC, and $40000 grant, and you receive a $15000 dollar scholarship, well the scholarship will cover the loans that you are supposed to take out, your $2000 in work study, and then the remaining $8000 will lower the grant to $32000, you are still expected to pay your EFC).

Hi, what do you know about the PoliSci or History departments?

Not much, unfortunately. But I've never heard anything bad about either of them -- as far as I know, they're well-respected and the people in the departments are pretty happy with them.

Does financial aid get better/worse/roughly the same over time?

It should be about the same, unless your EFC changes a lot, of course. I was worried about this too when I got here, but a few people have reassured me that their financial aid packages have been pretty consistent. I suppose I'll find out for certain when I get my financial aid package for next year.

But anyway -- I don't think you need to worry about it changing too drastically.

Do the graduate programs interfere with the undergraduates' opportunities (especially in theater)?

Don't think so. All the undergraduate theater people I know are constantly involved in productions; I don't think they're lacking for opportunities to do theater at all.

@ pmk

The History department is very good at Northwestern. They offer many popular courses for majors and non-majors. The quarter system allows the dept to offer many different courses and seminars. The PoliSci department is good too.

Not sure if this has been answered and not sure how knowledgeable you are about it, but within the School of Comm, do you know if students are able to take classes that are not specific to their major? For instance, I would be a comm studies major, but I might want to take a class in radio. Is that possible?

Furthermore, do you know any people who are comm studies majors and whether or not they are satisfied with the program?

Thanks!

I don't think there are actually any radio classes anymore...despite the name, for all intents and purposes, it's a TVF program.

Then I'll rephrase my question, TVF classes. Kind of disappointing that radio has lost its prevalence.

Do a lot of people leave on the weekends due to the proximity to Chicago, or is there still a ton of stuff going on on campus that people stay around for?

@ Jarn

Luckily there is plenty to do on campus that many students still stay. 75% of the student body is from out-of-state. There are theatre performance, concerts, parties, community service activities. You will find many students studying on the weekends, especially Sunday, in the library and cafes.

Are there any bank branches on campus besides US Bank?

On Campus? No. Theres a chase and B of A in Evanston, though.

Are there any bank branches on campus besides US Bank?

No, but there is a Bank of America downtown, so if you live south it'll be pretty close.

Anyone know if there is another bank close by?

Whoa, suppasonic. That was crazy.

Does one cellular phone company get better service than others -- ie. Verizon, ATT, etc. My daughter was promised an I-phone and I want to ensure ATT gets good reception.

Verizon has far and away the best service on campus.

I was on campus with my daughter today for Wildcat Days and there were complaints about AT&T service. My daughter had trouble with her Sprint reception in Norris (although I did not).

Sprint's bad.

when i visited last year, i had t-mobile, and it was awful so i switched to at&t, which is alright, only places i really have trouble are norris and lisa's

No one gets service in Norris. Verizon is spotty in dorms on south campus; ATT is spotty in dorms up north. My experience, anyway.
