Ask Penn why rejected?

So i got rejected from CAS ED to Penn...

Is it possible to call Penn office of admissions or regional officer and ask why I got rejected?

Thank you

I’m sorry for your disappointment.

I kind of get why it’s your first impulse to do that, but it’s really not a good or productive idea. You’re not going to get any information out of it that’s going to help with the rest of your applications because they have to be submitted in just a couple of weeks. There’s not time to make substantial changes in the bulk of your application–the grades, the standardized test scores, the teacher recommendations, the extracurricular accomplishments. I suppose you could rewrite your essays, but if you’d written an essay that was particularly outside the mainstream in any way, you’d likely know it already.

Best of luck to you.

I don’t think it’ll be useful. There’s not always a specific reason especially for a school as selective as this one, and it’s not like they have written in your file “SAT was 200 points too low” or “should’ve played a team sport.” Plus, like Sikorsky said, it’s too late to impact your other apps. I get that you’re probably bitter and disappointed and surprised but just chalk it up to it being a school that is very difficult to get into.

I also was rejected from CAS ED- should I even bother applying to Princeton or Dartmouth?

Sorry to say it, but it’s time to move on. You might not have been what Penn was looking for even with stellar SAT scores and GPA. Apply to some other schools and even though it’s cliche and all, I really do think everything happens for a reason. This is still very early in the admissions process. You can still apply to some fantastic schools out there for the regular decision round.

mec9514: DEFINITELY! Penn is sooooo different from the other Ivies, as is Dartmouth…they’re all so different from each other! I know someone who got rejected from Cornell ED and then accepted to Harvard in the RD round so please don’t give up on the other ivies. You never know!! :)
