I doubt you'll be rescinded, but you should absolutely give them a call ASAP.

I am an incoming student of 2008.
I applied Berkeley as a major of Mech E. (cuz I thought it was easier to get into compared to EECS)
Is that possible for me to transfer to EECS?
I want to get out of Mech E as soon as possible. Is that possible for me to transfer to EECS after the 1st semeter? Or what requirements do I need for transferring?

PS: My friend also wants to transfer to EECS. He applied as a major of Physics. I thinks it is harder for him to transfer from college to college.

Need help!!! Plz!!!!

What is the competition like for business? I've heard that people study constantly and are majorly stressed out. Is it super hard to handle?

does anyone know if math 16A is covered by the BC exam with a 5?

I want a nice dorm room; is Berkeley going to disappoint me? (I think I know the answer )

I'd like to say I'm passionate about my intended major, but I don't know that I am. How mobile can one be between colleges? Say between the College of Environmental Design and the College of Arts and Sciences or Engineering?

When I applied I was dual enrolled at a state university. I switched to a community college, so my intended classes changed too. (State U was 2 hour drive in lousy midwest winter weather--just too dangerous! And scary!!!) I'd say the coursework is comparable and both schools are accredited...is this going to be a problem?

chey chey

most dorm rooms are fine. clark kerr rooms are huge, my friend basically lived in an apartment his freshman year

hard to do

no idea

ocgirl,

competition is not that intense for business, or if it is i never felt it. people defintely dont study all the time, i drink 3 to 4 times a week and i made it in to haas fine as did several of my friends. the most important thing to do is always pad your GPA even if it means taking easier classes

is the rumor true that many of Cal students are easily able to pursue graduate degrees at Stanford?

I was wondering how exactly the lottery system works..

Is it that everyone is assigned a random number, by lottery, and these numbers represent the order of how people get housing? Like if I'm assigned #1 by lottery, I get first choice?

If this is the case, do they tell you your lottery number so that you have an idea of what your chances of getting a dorm are? And when do they tell you what lottery number you got? Immediately after you submit your housing application, maybe a week or two after, or like.. after the June housing deadline?

it even covers math1b (the harder version of 16b)

they dont tell you your lottery number ever. and yes you will get your first choice if your lottery number is high enough.

oh oops, I meant to post the lottery number question in the spring admits thread.
Is the answer to my question any different if applied to spring admits?

a couple of questions:

i got into cal on bioE this year, and i'm trying to choose between that and ucsd bioeng: biotech. if i want to go to med school eventually, i'm guessing that maybe sd would be a better option, although i heard that cal might be better since they don't have an official pre-med program which tend to be rather competitive (on top of cal, period). however, if i want to do engineering then cal should be better.

i know that sd is amazing for bioE, but i want to either go to med school or focus on a more engineering focus on bioE, maybe an electrical emphasis. any thoughts on which program i should choose?

also, is it hard to switch majors within CoE at cal? bioE to EECS?

thanks!

I will begin Grad school in MCB at UCB this fall.
Is anyone familiar with housing for grad students at Berkeley? What is the best option. Also anything about meal plans.

if I already paid for the housing application, can I still request a roommate? [I can still even change the housing prefs.]

also, i'm going to be a bio major at berkeley. one of the lower division requirements is math 16a and I was wondering if my calc ap test covers it cause I heard that because i'm in this major i have to retake the course.

blackdadillacs: actually my response would probably be more applicable to spring admits since that i am one, but im 99.9%sure its the same for regular admission

p3rs0n101: im 99.9% sure that you do not have to take 16a if yo meet the minimum ap calc grade for calc ab/bc.

The International House has a lot of graduate students. I think Channing/Bowditch apartments houses some, and maybe even Unit 2 Wada but I'm not sure on that one. I think there's also graduate housing up in the hills near Clark Kerr...well, graduate housing is hard to find at Berkeley. Try looking for nearby apartments.

i'm also going to be a MCB major. is it really hard?
i don't know whether to go to Cal or UCSD, can anyone give me any options/advice/whatever?

let me ask a student: I am a EECS major and am deciding between UCB (OOS, little aid, understandably) and Duke (lots of money). Is UCB EECS about 32K better than Pratt? - about the best way I can put what my decision has boiled down to, because:

I am holding the rest of the decision criteria constant across both schools - I am fairly comfortable in most surroundings and believe I can make the best of wherever I am.......completely focused on the education quality.

Go to Duke. 32K is a lot of money.

I searched the thread but couldn't find a specific answer.

Q: How's the racial mingling at Cal? I realize that it's mainly Caucasian and Asian with a smaller group of Hispanics and an even smaller group of African American/International. But do different races mingle with one another outside of the classroom? Or do most students tend to stick to their own race?
