Oh sorry I repeated the question. I have a weird habit of doing that on CC :-?. Did you ever see Connor Kennedy? Who did he hang out with? “there’s no such thing as stupid questions.” :D

Lol yeah…we all saw him…regularly…he was a student just like the rest of us haha. He just graduated and as far as his friends I don’t really know what to tell you? He had friends; he hung out with a lot of people.

i’m really just asking what kind of group he hung out with? (Ex: the populars,overachievers,etc.) How did he act and did he just hang out with anyone of the rich kids? Also where did he go to college? Lol I sound like a stalker :-O. I assume he’d be popular though after he dated Taylor Swift.I’m just curious.IDK why though. Oh well <:-P

Thanks for posting this thread.

Can you please share with me some of the most unique traits/facts about Deerfield? I would love to hear that.

Another one:
Please explain some special programs/classes/competition for math students. (I really love math)

One more:
How meaningfully Deerfield music program has affected you? I play trombone, so I would also really eager to hear this.

By the way, how high my SAT should be to impress the admission, considering I am a sophomore this year.

@KimberlyLaila Ehh I think I’ll refrain from delving too much into the life of Conor at Deerfield…that’s not what this thread is about!!! He was a nice person who talked to a lot of different people and yes everyone did know who he was…even before he dated Taylor Swift. He’ll be attending Harvard in the fall.

@CaptainAmerican Sit down meals, our no visible phone policy, our medium size, our historical surroundings, and class dress are some things that come to mind. If you scroll through the first page I think that I talked about Deerfield’s uniqueness already.
I’m not really a Math person myself so unfortunately I can’t really help you much. I know that we have these classes for people that our unbelievable math students–we call them God Math and I think there may be a Jesus math before God math?haha Those are the classes for people who have completed all other regular math classes and I hear that students in those classes just work on one problem a year or something crazy like that. We do have a competitive math team!
I personally do not play an instrument but there are musical performances that happen frequently throughout the year and there was even a really cool dance number that incorporated some percussion instruments. Also if you want it is totally possible to take trombone lessons during your school day!!! Someone can be brought in to give you lessons or you can play in a DA band.
I have no idea about your last question but I’m sure if you did some research you can find out the average test scores for those admitted or even ask the admissions office if you give them a call!!

@bingalot lol thanks bingalot! :)) which classes did you take in senior year and how did you juggle ECs, classes, a social life, and applying to college?

@KimberlyLaila
I’ll let you know? I’m a rising senior…

oh I thought you were already a senior? Okay what was it like managing the application process back in 8th grade?

@KimberlyLailala School year doesn’t start for another month or so.
You’re asking a lot of me!haha I can’t really give you a good answer; when I think back to that time in my life and how much work I thought I had if can’t help but laugh a little. But honestly I don’t remember being too stressed out because I personally had a local back up plan that I would have been more than happy with! That’s not to say that I didn’t try at all but I know that for some people a lot “rides” ok their process. Whether it be the fact that a sibling already attends or so many family members have attended before them…I didn’t have any of that! I applied and I did my school work and I don’t remember feeling overwhelmed.
NOW AS FOR COLLEGE I AM FREAKING OUT A BIT BUT I AM TRYING TO STAY CALM. DA actually does a great job with the college advising program and so my stress could be 10000 times worse to be honest.
But don’t think about college right now let that stress stay in the future for now haha

@KimberlyLaila sorry I didn’t tag you correctly!! It’s so cool that you can tag people on here now.

@bingalot haha it’s okay!& IKR! =))

I’ll stop with the ?s for a while. =P

No need to! If you have questions about DA I’m here to answer them! @deerfield15 can provide some insight as well! Exclamation points rock!

YAAAAYYY!!! :D

I have a few questions. Thanks for starting this, btw. Deerfield is my top choice and I’d love to learn more about it. What is the athletics program like for girls? What is the dorm life like? And the Deerfield town?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear that DA is your first choice; it was my first choice!!! What sports do you play @boardinghopes? I don’t know what you want to know about the programs specifically but I can tell you that being on a sports team at DA is so much fun and you meet some really good friends that last because, well, you spend so much time with your team mates!! The class day happens and then you have sports practice–no practices on Saturdays or Wednesdays because those are game days! The coaches are deans and teachers and people who work in the admissions office and it’s cool to get to know them in more ways than one. I can tell you that if you are looking to play sports in college playing at Deerfield can definitely get you to a D1 program if that’s what you’re passionate about! It isn’t uncommon for Deerfield athletes to play sports in college at great schools.
DORM LIFE ROCKS!!! I think that when people think about college or boarding school dorm life is what they look forward to most/remember fondly. It’s so great to get to know so many people from so many different places and be able to know that there are 10+ other people, on your hall alone, that are struggling with the same assignment or going to stay up just as late as you to get their work done! And you have feeds (food at around 9 o’clock provided by dorm residents) and I don’t know if you would be a freshman or sophomore or what but as an underclassman you would live with proctors who are sort of like your big sisters who are seniors and live with you for the whole year. Also it’s super fun to sleepover at your friend’s dorm on the weekends and just kick back and watch movies and eat snacks…regular stuff that happens at home!
The town that we have is called Greenfield and it is super close by! There are grocery stores and restaurants and there’s a movie theatre and so it is a common destination on Friday nights–we have shuttles that run to take students there. Our immediate location is super historical but go 2 or 3 minutes down the road and you’re just in another small town. Oh!! And we have a place called Richardson’s that sells candy and ice cream and it’s in walking distance!!! I love that place and they make a lot of money off of us Deerfield students lol

Thanks so much! I really hope to get into Deerfield. I play lacrosse mainly (also soccer and basketball, but I want to try field hockey), do you know what that team is like?

@boardinghopes I don’t know much about the field hockey team, sorry. I think they may have made it to the play offs or something this past school year but if you want to know more you could email admissions and they could put you in contact with a coach/the coaches! Or if you are going to be on campus you could even meet up with some players/talk to the coaches! Keep in mind that field hockey and soccer happen in the same season so you will have to choose which one to pursue.

I’ve decided on field hockey, and once the school year starts, I’ll email admissions and see if I can get in touch with the coach. What’s the food like? I know the meals are mostly sit-down meals, do you ever get snacks? Haha, I have so many questions. I just want to learn as much as I can. Do you have enough time between classes to get to your next class, because they’re in different buildings?

@boardinghopes The food is so good and I find myself missing it sometimes over the summer!!! While it can get to be a bit repetitive and we find that we end up eating chicken more than any other meat our dining hall staff does a great job of preparing enough meals for all of us and they bake their own bread so it’s always fresh for us There’s a salad bar and there’s always a gluten free option as well. The desserts are so delicious, oh my god. I think I’ll be 100 years old struggling to remember my own name but I’ll remember the taste of the apple crisp from the dhall. As for snacks as long as the Dining hall is open there is fruit and also cereal. In the winter after classes there is “snack time” in the dhall where they put out left over desserts and the toaster so people can make bagels and stuff. Also feeds after study hours happen however often your dorm provides them! But it is very common for people to go grocery shopping for themselves every so often just to have Mac and cheese of cereal and stuff like that!
I believe there are 5 minute passing periods? It changed to 7 or something this past school year because of the construction of one of our buildings but it should be going back to 5. That is, more often than not, more than enough time to get to where you need to go! If you visit campus you’ll find that your tourguide (me possibly!!!) will first take you to all of the academic building which are at the center of lout campus and also fairly close together…not spread out like a college or anything. There are some special circumstances where people struggle but it doesn’t happen too often!!! It’s great that you are getting your answers now–it’s important to find out as much as possible about a school that you’re applying to as I’m now realizing again through the college application process.
