Any Questions about Deerfield?

Hi! So I'm a new freshman at Deerfield Academy, and I guess this thread is sort of like bingalot's Ask a Deerfield Freshman thread, which is the reason why I wanted to start this thread.

If you have any questions about Deerfield, ask them! I'll be happy to answer any - and if anyone else wants to answer questions, feel free to do so :)

Were your parents (or you) at all concerned about the Koch Brothers’ influence when choosing Deerfield? I know it’s a taboo subject - but has there been any mention of it?

@Leafyseadragon I don’t think that there is much mention of the Koch Brothers’ influence…at least I didn’t hear any when I applied. All I know about David Koch is that he financed the construction of our Koch Science & Math Center

@mbreed57 – Well the one thing day students miss out on is living in a dorm with all your friends, but that doesn’t exempt them from dorm events! I know day students that are treated the same as any other student at Deerfield. Some of my friends are day students and they are the coolest! There are always different friend groups at Deerfield, but I would say that day students fit right in. As for the reputation of the people at Deerfield, some of it might be true (I’ve heard-“all the rich kids go to DA”/“everyone is so preppy there”) but it happens in all schools. I hope that answers your question :)

Are there cliques at deerfield and what are they?

Please tell me about the Internet access policy. Is there wifi in every dorm room? Are there restrictions on types of websites you are able to access? What is the cell phone policy?

I’m sorry I haven’t been on lately!

@Hsgirl25 – As in every school, some could say that there are cliques. But that’s probably because the freshman class has only been together for three months, and others have told me that by senior year you’re going to know everyone really well. Does that answer your question? If not, PM me!

@Spoon6566 – There is wifi in every dorm room, and the wifi shuts off at 11 pm for underclassmen, and 1 am for upperclassmen. Cell phones can be used in dorms but never in class (unless the teacher says its for a project, lab etc.) More information can be found at this link: https://deerfield.edu/the-guide/help-desk-its/its-policies/
