Ask Questions about Lehigh University Here!

Hey everyone,
I hope the college search process went well or is still ongoing. I'm a Biology major at Lehigh University that just completed my Freshman year. I would be happy to answer any questions about Lehigh you may have. Fire away.

MODERATOR'S NOTE: Anyone is free to ask or answer questions in this thread.

Would you recommend someone transferring into Lehigh? I’m thinking of transferring (I find out within days of whether or not I get in) and a lot of people have told me that it’s really hard to “fit in” if you’re a transfer student. I know the University itself focuses more on undergraduates, but it seems odd to me that other students might not be very welcoming of new students…Is this true in your experience?

Lol just kidding I got rejected…Forget that question.

Hey, I was looking at courses(transfer student that was just accepted) and saw that the more preferable organic chem professor is over capacity. I was building my schedule based on what I would need and it turns out that the only orgo section out of the two times that will work is the one that is overbooked. Is there a way to get into a class like that?

It’s kind of funny I just went through the same situation in trying to get into Organic I with Professor Schray. In my experience if you can prove that your desired section is the only one that fits in your schedule, then you will get the class you need. Email the Chemistry department coordinator JoAnn DeSalvatore and tell her you need to get into that section. Good luck!

Apply again next year!

@LehighUndergrad1‌ I applied once as an undergraduate, got rejected. Applied again as a transfer student, got rejected. It sounds like Lehigh just doesn’t like me regardless of how much I am in love with them.

I might reapply, I might not. I haven’t decided yet.

InLoveWithLehigh,

It certainly isn’t that Lehigh doesn’t like you. Admissions at a smaller school is a lot more complicated than anyone who “chance” people would care to admit. Admissions has a set of goals they need to achieve with each class. So there are only 1,000 incoming students. First there are the athletes needed to fill the spots on the NCAA level teams. Then you have to have students for all the different majors and colleges. Then you need to start working of diversity of your class: geographical, racial, gender, socioeconomic etc. None of us can really judge the admissions decisions. Have you gone back and looked at all the kids with fantastic scores, grades and extracurriculars that don’t get into Lehigh each and every year? Harvard always says they could fill their incoming class 6 times over with the same level of talented kids. Best of luck to you. Any school you go to will be very lucky to have such a bright student.

How is the social life at Lehigh? What do the kids do around campus and in Bethlehem?

Look above to the Featured Threads of the Lehigh page. There is a thread titled Social Life. It is one of my absolute favorite Lehigh threads. The Mr. Mountainhawk poster is hilarious and provides plenty on concrete examples of what to do in the Bethlehem area.

What was your housing experience like? Did you like your roommate/floormates/building, and how did it compare to other freshman buildings?

My son lived in the dorms and lived in a fraternity. His freshman roommate is still his best friend. There was a very diverse group of kids who hung out together. A bunch of them went greek and some didn’t. They have all stayed friends. I know, because I take them out for meals when I visit. Haha. My son went there convinced he wouldn’t go Greek and then he decided to join one with his friends. It ended up being the perfect decision for him.

It seems to me Lehigh is a pretty social school. Someone I know from Philadelphia remarked to me that Lehigh kids stood out to her because of how much they LOVED their school. I have gone to football games and the alumni just fell all over us welcoming us and offering to help us in anyway.

When we were looking at schools we went traveled and visited many schools during the summer after his junior year. When he was accepted he stayed over at Lehigh and another school. The other school would have been a terrible fit for our son. Lehigh just felt right for him. Go to the school while it is in session and see if you like the vibe. There isn’t a right or wrong school. Just what each person feels the most comfortable with. Really, no need for anyone to bash any other school. None of our opinions matter it is what school is right for YOU!
