Can you participate in events for LLCs that you are not in?
The school builds up LLCs as a big thing but they aren’t. LLC events are really just dorm events that are run by RAs and every dorm has RA run events. RAs have a budget to do a certain number of events (both in the dorm and sometimes out) with their dorm residents. Frequently it is food related - bringing in cupcakes or tacos for people.
no, it is random and if anything, is based off of when you submit your housing deposit
Hello, I am an international student in NUimmerse.
I have some questions about NU.
-When is Move-in day?
(If you are not sure exact day, could you tell me approximately)
-Is it possible to make a friend though I have no friends in NU?
Everybody is given a specific move in window which depends upon your dorm (something like a four hour period on a given day). International students are typically offered to come to the last orientation in August and move in early (so they don’t have to make an extra trip over the summer).
@kiddle Thank you.
Hello! I’m from Washington (state) and I was wondering what students do with their belongings when they are moving out of their dorms and into other housing. Are there storage units people rent out where we can keep our things if we don’t have housing and are not in Boston for a period of time, ie. Summer Vacation? Also is there a place we can keep things at/near campus if we are doing Coop or Dialogues out-of-state or abroad? Thanks!
There are several competing storage companies that will bring you boxes, pick up your filled boxes during move out, and return them during move in. The costs will be based upon how much stuff you have and how long they are storing it for you. The school itself doesn’t have any storage facilities.
You can ship stuff and also take some on the plane home with you (you will need to do this for clothes you need, etc.)
My daughter inherited lots of food staples (spices, oil, etc.) from people who moved away. We are driving distance, so most of her stuff came home when she wasn’t in Boston (and hardly fit in our car). However, she did also leave stuff with friends who were staying on campus to hold on to. I remember a time when her living room in a dorm suite was serving as temporary storage (over the summer) for stuff belonging to a few different friends.
Hi! I was admitted as undeclared & was wondering if it’s possible to double major in chemistry and cs (i tried looking for a combined major but they don’t have one… maybe I can propose one since they have bio & cs?) with 2 co-ops and graduate in 4 years? I’m planning on going through the pre-med if that matters.
You can absolutely propose the major! Many of those combined degrees were created from that exact process through CCIS.
That said, CS, Chemistry, 2 co-op’s all in four years will be a challenge for someone going pre-med where GPA is important and you may want time to study for the MCAT. I think it’d be smarter to let something give there - maybe one being a minor or doing 5 years instead of four to give spacing for MCAT studying (4 years and 2 co-op’s means constant classes and co-op with no breaks besides winter/spring and Thanksgiving).
What’s the goal with that combination?
Yay, thanks for responding! It’s cool that there’s an option for me to do that. I have some AP credits that can knock out a few of the required classes so wouldn’t that free up some time for the 4-yr-grad to work while staying on top of the MCAT?
I didn’t really have a goal with the combination, I’m just very interested in these two subjects. However, I guess the combination could put an emphasis on how chemistry can be considered as a computational science.
With your premed reqs (2 semesters or general chem, 2 semesters of orgo) you could probably do a CS major and Chem minor.
I would plam on 5 years. Very very few premeds (no matter where they go to college) go straight from college to med school without a gap year. Do some research about it and you will see
AP credits can certainly help - every 8 credits is one less summer session needed (aka one more 2-month break for MCAT prep). Obviously don’t use them for pre-med courses though.
I think it would be sufficient to major in one and minor in the other, but I’d take classes in both and see after a year or two if you prefer one or if you would still want to go for a combined degree. Start taking with the CCIS dean/staff about the combination in your second semester and go from there!
Thanks for all the replies. I’ll keep them in mind!
I am an international applicant and I recently got accepted to Northeastern Univesity.
Now it says that if I choose to study, I should pick yes and then pay the 100 dollars enrollment fee and that I will be getting my official admission letter which I need to sign send back.
so,
- What does the official admission letter contain? Will it have any information about financial aid?
- Since I applied for a scholarship, will the official admission letter contain anything related to that?
- What are the chances of receiving any form of financial aid as a graduate international applicant at Northeastern?
I’m honestly not familiar with that process @braceface94 Sorry
I think any aid or scholarship would be included in your acceptance.
Can someone talk about the cost of living at Northeastern…?
Also can someone clarify the Northeastern Promise because on the website it says that
but on my award letter it says
I divided my costs per semester and they are equivalent to my FA award for this year… really confused by their “promise thing”
The “promise” wording is just a way to say “financial aid policy”. The mismatch here can only be cleared up by the FA office. Given that the increase % is so publicly made clear, I suspect that the latter simply omits the language on the percentage increase thing, partially because the increased is undetermined but it can be positively stated that the $X will not be lesser. The financial aid office can mean jumping through a few bureaucratic hoops here and there but if you do that they are the single truth to get things sorted out with.
@MrElonMusk Did you receive need based grant or merit aid or both? Merit aid is a fixed amount and will not increase.
@TomSrOfBoston Both. I know that merit aid won’t increase (it said on the award letter). I just wanted some clarification for need-based.
@PengsPhils Thank you for your explanation!
Can anyone answer my first question in post #196
