17% is not a low engineering figure, in fact it is the same percent as USC and much higher than UCLA (11%). UW is 10%. Generalizing, I think at big publics it is much lower percentage and privates with a good variety of majors it will be 15-20%, unless you are going to a strictly engineering school like Cal-Tech or Harvey Mudd. With so many majors, almost one if 5 being engineering seems like a strong number, but program is intimate enough to get lots of personal attention. Engineers absolutely interact with everyone (if they choose to anyway). In my student’s suite of 8, there is one other engineering major, and my student rooms with a pre-med major, the other 6 are various majors and they are already bffs. The housing is set up in a themed way that you are likely to meet and get along with many different kinds of people. btw, my student is engineering and turned down a couple of those above to go to SCU cause of the size and connections.
Thanks, Veronica. I was looking for SCU at the Fulbright fair but found that you don’t attend but many of your peer schools do. You may want to consider coming next year as it is a good forum for UK students to meet adcoms (and vice versa)!
Hi! I was wondering if it was easy or even possible to major across divisions? For example, say I was in the B-School and I wanted to additionally major in the Engineering College for Comp. Science. Would that be possible, and if so how difficult would it be?
Thank you!
Hi @forwardalways,
From the research that I’ve done online, I believe that it is possible to major across divisions, however if you were interested in double majoring within the business school, unfortunately that is impossible.
Another factor to think about is that since the two majors would be in different schools, there wouldn’t be a significant amount of overlap in requirements and pre-requisites, so it would take longer to complete both majors, and you would almost certainly have to overload during your time here. Many students do overload here at SCU, and it is do-able, it just takes a lot of work and dedication.
I don’t see anywhere requirements for SAT subject tests for the school of engineering. Is this correct?
That is correct!
Hi, You mentioned in a post from November 11, 2014 that you review the best results on SAT and ACT tests even subscores. Do you recommend submitting an ACT test with a lower composite if certain subscores from that test are higher than the test with the higher composite?
Am I supposed to get a link to an applicant portal after submitting my application? I sent mine out on Nov. 1 for EA, but still haven’t received any sort of emails or links. Thank you in advance for the clarification!
What percent of students are from California? I heard from someone a lot of the Californians head home on weekends?
Hi @ForwardAlways,
I talked to one of the admission counselors and they said if you haven’t received your login information, you should send an email to appstatus@scu.edu, and just let them know that you haven’t gotten any information after submitting your application.
Hi @Coolmom23,
57% of students are from California, and a few locals do head home on the weekends a couple times a quarter, but most do stay on or around campus.
Does santa clara let all EA applicants know at the same time or do some people know earlier than others?
Hi @Rosabella98,
All Early Action and Early Decision applicants receive their decision at the same time, mid- December.
Hi @vschuSCU, my test scores aren’t on par at SCU’s level… Standardized testing is hard for me, I have horrible test anxiety. However, my GPA (3.688) is on par with SCU and I have a lot of extra cirrculars, volunteer hrs, and AP classes. Is there anyway I can get in? If so, can you please give me tips as to what would be me get in and how can I get in touch with an admissions counselor?
