Ask Questions About St. Paul's Here!

@skiergirl777 during revisits, there are mini classes with other accepted students and then you will spend the evening with a current student, who takes you to dinner and to the activities fair. Revisits are helpful as you get to meet all the other people who will probably be in your form

What is type of outfit or clothing is acceptable for revisits? @paisleyprint

How does St. Paul handle gay students, and what is the GSA community like?

I can’t speak for SPS, but if they are like the vast majority of schools, they “handle” gay students the same as str8 students.

Do you know if anyone there has taken any class in astrophysics?

Yes my son and a number of friends who took upper level astronomy and astrophysics classes. They were hard but well worth it.

Can freshman audition for the dance company? Does it help when applying if you’re a ballet dancer? Is it true you can dance in front of the director of the dance department after the interview?

thx!

My DD absolutely loves everything about SP and we are waiting for her ssat results. Is the academic support available if needed? I am not looking for a sink or swim school, but rather a swim and if I am sinking in a class and request assistance will it be there type of school?

@blue77skidoo One of the best parts of boarding school is how the teachers are always accessible for extra help! I go to see my teachers in their homes or classrooms when I’m struggling with a class or when I want to review for a big test. It’s also pretty cool to get one-on-one help from your teacher when they’re “on duty” or supervising their dorm. You often chat and get to know them as a person, and it’s always a plus when they bring food! Peer tutors are also available for math, science, and language every school night. Lastly, having classmates and peers in your dorm to proofread your essay or explain that chemistry concept is a great way to get support at literally any hour.

@SPSboy2985 The GSA is actually one of the most active clubs on campus. They recently decided to change their name from “the Gay Straight Alliance” to “the Gender and Sexuality Alliance” to include a broader spectrum of identities. They meet every Friday for dinner= I’ve attended a few and it’s usually an open conversation on personal concerns or accomplishments and ideas for the SPS community. There are also special events like movies and speakers! They give a chapel presentation every year that makes the whole school tear up.

To answer your astrophysics question, yes! I’ve taken every class offered in astronomy. The observatory located on campus is literally one of the best in New England. By the time you’ve finished Intro to Astronomy, you can find almost any astrological feature and can work a Dobsonian telescope perfectly. You get great access to the more powerful telescopes in the domes, and there’s even a solar observatory in the Lindsay Math and Science building. There’s plenty of support for independent research projects too if you complete all 4 astronomy electives. I cannot recommend the classes highly enough!
