hi justin how many internationals at lafayette

Does Lafayette offer any type of campus visits to URM's that are paid for by the school?

Molly123,

International students make up approximately 7% of the total student population of 2,400. If my math is correct, .07 times 2,400 = about 170.

welldad,

Good question!

While we wouldn't pay for an individual URM to visit the campus, we do offer a two-day program every February called 'Prologue' that caters to URMs. Invitees get a free lunch and dinner out of it, but travel expenses and the like are not covered.

Justin -- Has there been any official word yet as to how many applications for admission Lafayette received this year? I recall that last year you wrote about the college's plans to step up recruiting in parts of the country that have historically produced few applicants in order to increase geographical diversity. Were these plans actually put into effect and, if so, any impressions as to how that effort is working out?

HV51,

Last year, 6,357 applied. This year, as I just heard while helping out with an information session this past Saturday, about 5,700 applied. Yes, this is the first year in a long span when applications went DOWN!

It seems, though, that other colleges are experiencing comparable declines. Most blame the poor economy; students are applying to only those schools they're seriously considering because of steep application fees.

Yes, we are still stepping up efforts to recruit more widely (see: Local Leadership for Admissions Outreach), but it'll take time to see if our efforts are worthwhile.

UMM, what are URMs? Just curious.

As for apps, I bet that the numbers at state schools are up.

Minky,

Don't feel left out! URM = Under-Represented Minority. Admissions jargon, that's all.

Though I have no concrete data to back my thinking, I wouldn't be surprised to find those numbers up. It's all about 'bang for the buck' nowadays, no?

justin thanks ................how many asian internationals at present studing in lafayette and how should i choose my residece hall

Molly123,

We don't provide a breakdown of the int'l student population on our website or in the literature. If you're really interested, consider emailing the President of the Int'l Students Association, Adekemi Egunsola, at egunsola@lafayette.edu.

If you'd like information to help you choose your residence hall, see post #485 (pg. 33) of the 'Lafayette Questions: Part II' thread in the Lafayette forum. If you're asking how an accepted student indicates his/her preferences, know that Res Life will eventually ask incoming students to complete an online survey.

justin thanks again for the quick replies...................please give your opinion about Lafayette vs northeastern..................for Engineering.............what is your opinion

Molly123,

I honestly know nothing about Northeastern beyond its overall reputation.

You might consider asking your question in the Northeastern forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/northeastern-university/.

thanks justin...........................

Justin,
I am an international student and as such I am a little bit concerned. I hear a lot of contradictory information about raging crisis and its effect on financial aid for international students. Do you think that I have a chance of receiving financial aid? My scores are the following: SAT 2290 (R 700, M 790, W 800), SAT II Maths level 1 800, SAT II Maths level 2 800, SAT II Chemistry 770, SAT II Literature 730 and TOEFL iBT 116. I have good grades at school - 5.96 on a scale of 6.00 (Bulgarian system).

I would appreciate any pieces of advice.
Thank you

JanHus,

Financial aid is tight for domestic and int'l applicants, alike.

Your academic credentials will not determine your aid nearly as much as your financial documents. As such, I have no idea how eligible you may be for aid.

Keep in mind that int'l admission is NOT need-blind. If your family can pitch in some $$$, you're more likely to be admitted over a comparably qualified candidate -- it's really as simple as that, since there's only so much $$$ to go around.

Lafayette received my ED agreement form on around 2/5. When should I expect to receive their decision by mail? (I'm from Arkansas, btw.)

lllklll,

As stated on Lafayette's Admissions website:

<<< Decisions on [ED] applications normally are made within 30 days of receipt of your completed application forms. >>>

If the ED Plan Agreement was the final outstanding requirement of your application (check here: https://bannerselfservice.lafayette.edu:8090/pls/bprod/bwskalog.P_DispLoginNon), then expect to hear back about 30 days later.

justin hi again

what is the overall ranking of an engineering programme at lafayette ....... I do hope you understand that even though we all say ranking does not matter.......but eveyone still uses this as a tool while deciding a college esp. the international student .
