Ask vicissitudes: Spring Admits (FAQ included)

Bio 1B might fill up fast so you might want to sign up for that one. Chem 1A shouldn't fill up fast and I have no idea about Classics 10B.

are there any OOS spring admits?

btw no question here but there are 2,390 admitted through spring and 1,058 accepted

If i get a D in one of my fpf class, will my admission be rescind?

Wow I haven't been here in a while. Sorry guys.

misterreach: yes there are OOS spring admits.

yayarea510: I think you just need a 2.0 overall to not have your admission rescinded.

what if you get under 2.0? is there anyway around it?

I have no idea...talk to the FPF people. Send them an email.

Why does my Bearfacts personal section say

Bear Facts System Exception
A Bear Facts System Exception has occurred.
This Exception has been logged and will be reviewed by BearFacts Support.

^its been like that for a few days. I think the screwed up status is what messing up my housing application

When, if ever, do the FPF grades show up in Bearfacts? Also, what about communitiy college and AP credits?

April, according to Kai

EDIT: nvm...

I'm pretty sure that I'll be attending Cal, albeit as a Spring admit. I'm excited, though!
But I can't get my parents to let me sign up for FPF (it's only been a few hours since Cal decisions, so I'm hoping FPF won't fill up by the time I can change their minds!).
If I can't get into FPF, I was wondering if anyone knew:
1. If I attend a community college during the fall semester, how do those credits carry over to Cal? Do they serve as GPA boosters on my Cal transcript once I'm attending classes at Cal? Or do I still have free reign over which credits at the community college I would like to transfer over to Cal that fulfill breadth course requirements? I don't know how the CC transfer credits work, really.
2. If I attend a community college during the fall semester, and I do not want to load up on breadth courses for the following Spring semester at Cal, is my best bet at finishing my breadth courses by the time I apply for Haas (Winter 2009 I'm assuming? I have no idea!) through attending Cal's summer session?
Does Cal even offer breadth courses over the summer?

If I do apply for FPF on time:
3. Will I be presented with the same choices for housing as Fall admits? (I'd like to live in Unit 2 with only one other person!) I'm concerned about this because I don't want to end up in a dorm other than my top choices, and I really don't want to live with 2 other roommates.
4. How likely will I get to room with a Fall admit if she and I agree to write each other down as roommates?

With all these questions, I'm wondering if it would be better for me to just attend my 2nd best option: UCSD for Business Economics?
(Sorry! All my questions make me appear a little needy.)
Thanks!

If I can't get into FPF, I was wondering if anyone knew:
1.
2.

If I do apply for FPF on time:
1. Yes, but it isn't guaranteed.
2. Possible but you'll need a bit of luck

-. Cal econ and Cal bus are superior to UCSD's. You shouldn't even be considering UCSD for business.

Thanks a bunch! ; )
You're absolutely right about SD (I was contemplating UCSB over UCSD before getting admitted into Berkeley... I really didn't think I had a chance!)

My parents are still unwilling to let me sign up for the FPF program, though.

If you attend a CC, you get "units" for the courses, as in they will go towards your 120 units needed to graduate, and you can fulfill requirements like the breadth requirements with them, but I'm almost certain they won't count towards your UCGPA.

Haas has its own set of breadth requirements, on top of the BA major prereqs, so you'll need to take a lot of classes. People usually take 1-2 classes in the summer, and you can certainly do that. Summer sessions should offer most breadth requirements and BA prereqs that you'll need.

Yes, but you're not guaranteed housing. If you get something you don't want, you can always turn down the offer and find housing elsewhere. Although having a triple does mean a really cramped room, it's a lot cheaper than a double, and I would take that personally over living off-campus for my first year.

They try their best to accomodate you, and they usually do pretty well.

UCSD? Depends. I would say, don't let Spring Admission deter you, although doing FPF would really help for Haas because FPF courses are pretty easy and you might need to take Haas prereqs for a grade (which again, I don't think you can do at a CC). Keep in mind though that getting into Haas is competitive, and Economics is also impacted, so you might have trouble getting the major you want.

As for FPF...would your parents let you attend Berkeley if you got into fall? If so, I don't see why they don't want you to do FPF. It's very similar to attending Berkeley as a fall admit, at roughly the same price. I highly recommend it.

Do you know the pros and cons of the law, communications, and business majors at berkeley? Is there a program that you recommend?

Do FPF students only get dorm space if it's not filled by fall admits? Won't that increase the likelihood of getting a triple if anything? Clark Kerr dorm is being renovated next yr. Will that take dorm rooms out of inventory?

UCB housing portal says freshman admits will get housing offers in "Late May" but FPF students won't get housing offers until "Mid to late July". That leaves about 3 weeks to find housing if a dorm room is not available. Wouldn't it be near impossible to find fall on campus housing in late July?

Since CKC is being renovated, I think there are just going to be a lot more triples elsewhere.

Thanks vicissitudes! (I couldn't fall asleep last night because I kept worrying about my fall semester.)
I have another question (hopefully it's my last, but that's no guarantee!). Sorry to bother anyone. @_@;

The classes offered in FPF aren't really that much easier than those on the Cal campus, right? I'm just asking because I've heard mixed feedback! The FPF website says the classes are about the same rigor, but my sister tells me many UCB Spring admits from her freshman year thought that the extension classes were much easier. Just wondering.
