Ask vicissitudes: Spring Admits (FAQ included)

Hey, just to chime in here...

I'm a spring admit and before coming here, I thought I'd feel so alone. But during this semester, I've met so many spring admits here! And none of them have lesser stats or are any less intelligent then the fall admits. Really, you can't tell spring admits apart from fall admits unless they TELL YOU straight up that they started a semester late.

Do I have to send in my SAT, AP, etc. reports with the course selection form? They're due by July 27 and the course form is due by June 1, but it seems like they're telling you to send them in together on the form. There are only two options on the form - "I've taken the tests and have attached the scores" or "I plan to take the tests and will send the scores in later."

Just regard the second option as "I will send the scores in later." You can send in the course selection form now and the AP scores later, it's fine.

i have a question!

i got a letter in the mail today from the residence hall linen service, detailing the necessary preparations for moving in and what not. does this confirm my housing for the fall or is this sent to ALL incoming students?

Hmm, that might just be sent to all students. I wouldn't say your housing is confirmed unless you get an email saying so.

" got a letter in the mail today from the residence hall linen service, detailing the necessary preparations for moving in and what not. does this confirm my housing for the fall or is this sent to ALL incoming students?"

May be an ad...

yeah the company that sent out the catalogs isn't affiliated with berkeley,
most department stores carry the extra-long sheets we need for cheaper anyway

Where do FPF'ers generally get dorm housing?
Units?

They get housing everywhere, from units to Foothill to Clark Kerr to Bowles and Stern. It's not different from fall admits.

so we dont find out about housing till july right?

I think you find out in early August, actually.

does anyone know how can I defer admission from fall 07 to spring 08? Just got my appeal for that rejected. maybe someone can exchange places with me?

two quick questions:

1) how can i send my sat scores to the FPF? you cant send it through collegeboard. can i just print out the scores off their website? i lost the paper they send through the mail.

2) for the transfer credit, it says to attach a copy of a transcript. are they asking for a high school transcript?

^ you should go here:

<a href="http://www.unex.berkeley.edu/fpf/scores.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.unex.berkeley.edu/fpf/scores.html</a></p>

why would you want to defer your admission into fall?!

What cathersx3 said.

What credits are you trying to transfer? If you're talking about AP credit, make a copy of your scores and send it in. If you're talking about CC credit, send in a copy of your CC transcript.

Im currently serving military service in my country which will end in early november. Anyone has any good ideas what I can do?

Well, here's what the college of engineering says:

If I am unable to attend the semester for which I am admitted, will Berkeley defer my admission to a later term?

A. No. Admission is valid only for the term in which you are admitted. If you wish to attend Berkeley in a future term, you must reapply without an admission guarantee. You will compete with all applicants who apply for the same term.

<a href="http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/admissions/faq.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.coe.berkeley.edu/admissions/faq.html</a></p>

So if you got into CoE, there's your answer. You're probably in the College of Letters and Sciences though, for which I didn't find a similar Q&A. (maybe another poster here could find one?) L&S might be more lenient than CoE so I'd encourage you to just call up the admissions office and ask if you can defer your admission.

My friends are taking summer classes at CC, and planning to transfer the credit to UCs later on. What are the pros/cons of doing so?

Students generally do this to get prereqs out of the way, either college prereqs or major prereqs. The pros are obviously, that you get your classes out of the way so you can take other classes of interest at your UC, and it might help a little with transitioning into college. Also, it might help in getting you sophomore standing which helps a little with registering for classes.

Still, I usually recommend that students enjoy their last summer of freedom, go somewhere or spend time with parents / high school friends. You can come into a UC with no credit at all and still get your prereqs done pretty easily. Plus you lose out on what, 50 bucks?
