if anybody could read my "thank you" letter, that would be helpful...

Wear your dress pants. When it comes to something like an interview, it's better to be a little overdressed than underdressed because you're more likely to be taken seriously and are less likely to feel intimidated by the interview.

Kosuke - from what you have said, you really have no real reason to conclude your interview with Pomona went badly. I think that especially with Senior college students and with local alumni interviewers, as opposed to admissions officers, applicants can tend to come away feeling insecure. They somehow just don't seem as able to reassure or relax the applicant, but that does not necessarily mean a bad outcome overall, or even that you got a poor write-up. My D's first ever interview was with a Senior and she was sure that the interviewer truly disliked her - that she completely blew the interview. She had other subsequent interviews with older alumni or admissions officers and felt a little better about all of them. Several months later, after she failed to even apply to the school where she had her first interview she received a personal letter encouraging her to apply and saying that the interviewer had identified her as a highly recommended candidate.

I am glad the WUSL interview went well! But don't fret too much about the Pomona interview either- I am not sure what Pomona's policy is, but often the interview is of less weight in the entire picture than other components and while a great interview might ice the cake, a so-so interview might not really hurt an otherwise strong candidate. Northstarmom and others have a better feel for that, but that is the impression many schools gave about the interview.

guess who has their Dartmouth interview tomorrow?
wish me luck!! i think i'll be wearing a brown polo to the interview, hope he doesnt get offended.

Have a good time, Kosuke: learn a lot and share a lot about yourself. And be sure to write a thank-you note afterwards. ;)

OK...just another humble opinion....get a pair of black dress pants to go with your black shoes. You can wear a nice shirt or sweater, or knit top. To be honest, the first impression the interviewer has of you will be your appearance. You want that to be a positive one. DS interviewed in 7 places all with a tie and shirt, and khakis. DD has interviewed in four places so far, with nice dress slacks and a shirt (on her summer interviews she wore a nice sundress with a sweater....for the AC). Do you have a friend you could borrow a pair of slacks from? They don't have to be from Bloomingdales....Dockers type slacks are fine and you can get them at any store, even Walmart has decent dress slacks. I know one young lady who interviewed in clothes from Ocean State Job Lot (it sounds like what it is...a junk store of "odd lots"). The bottom line is you need to look nicer than you would if you were going to school or out with your friends to the movies. If you can't buy....borrow!!

Kosuke:

My S, who went straight to his interview from school, focused on having a neat appearance. He wore ordinary khaki trousers (not Bloomingdales!) that were properly ironed (by mom), a polo shirt and black sneakers (he doesn't own any other kind of shoes). His interviews went well, and he was admitted EA. Good luck to you, and don't worry about your appearance so much.

mootmom, is there anyway you could look over my dartmouth thank you letter? sorry to keep on bringing this thread back, i just thought it would be easier than starting a new one for a simple question. thank you...

or if anyone else could look at it that would be wonderful.

Kosuke,
Sorry I'm coming in late to this thread and I'm willing to proof read but I think Jamimom, Northstarmom would be better. You can pm me if you'd like. About the nice pants - my son and his friends buy Dickies at Walmart or K-Mart. They look nice, wash up really well and are cheap.
