Hey guys,
I was accepted into the University of Chicago with a likely letter, and originally they only offered me a one-time stipend of 4,000 dollars in terms of merit aid. When official decisions came out, they revised their original offer to include a renewable scholarship of 20,000 dollars a year. However, this wouldn’t be enough for me to attend, though I really want to. My family doesn’t qualify for need-based aid, though.
Who should I contact about adding a little more money to the scholarship? The office of Undergraduate Admissions? If more money is given, UChicago will be where I choose to attend. Thanks in advance!!
Contact your regional admissions officer (https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/contact). Politely tell them that you really want to attend but that if you don’t get more aid you’ll have to go elsewhere. It may help if you tell them where you’ll choose to go elsewhere if it’s another elite school. There are some indications that the admissions office is cross-admit obsessed.
carey46 - following up on HydeSnark’s comments, which are valid, they may request documentation from a school or schools that they consider peers which show higher aid.
@HydeSnark Thank you, I sent an email this morning. The other school is Wash U, since I have the full-tuition faculty benefit there. Hopefully this works!! Will keep you posted
@HydeSnark @kaukauna If you’re interested to hear how this turned out, I ended up speaking with Dean Nondorf himself and they added an additional 12,000 dollars to my scholarship. They have made my choice for me! I am joining the University of Chicago’s class of 2023
Awesome update. Congratulations on all your hard work and self-advocacy!
