Aspiring Mathematician, French vs German.

So most math grad programs require competent reading skills in either French, German or Russian.

I am in college (if that makes any difference as opposed to language class in high school)
and am debating between French or German.

So which one do you guys think. Just looking for some opinions and thoughts.

Some colleges are known for their program in one certain language. See if you can find out (from past students and such) if your college has better French teachers or German teachers.

I’m also an aspiring mathematician (or at least, something to do with math) and I learned French in high school (I finished French last year, my sophomore year). I have to say I had a blast learning French, though a sizable part of my enjoyment came from having great French teachers. So see which department at your school has better teachers; I believe that they really make a difference in your learning the language and your enjoyment while learning it.

French is a beautiful, non-aggressive language. Il n’y a pas de choix: le fran

Which one comes easier to you?

Personally for me, I prefer the French language(I lost my fluency in it by failing to speak it regularly).

I don’t know. But both languages will be easier to learn for a fluent English speaker since they have many words in common. And the fact that German is in the same language family as English.

I would find what program is the best in your school. If they both are great than learn German. For some reason math and German seems like a cool combo.
