No laughing, please:
So I have been playing piano for about a decade, but I never fell in love with it and thus am not as skilled at it as I should be. That said, nothing makes me feel the passion music does. There are so many other instruments I want to learn. I have some experience with chorus and guitar along with the piano. However, I always wanted to learn an orchestral stringed instrument. The violin is what I would love to learn the most. I was never able to afford both piano and violin lessons, and my dad wanted me to stick to just piano lessons.
Now that I am 23 and able to afford community college, I want to take lessons from their violin instructor there. She is a very qualified instructor.
With music being my passion, particularly orchestral stringed instruments, I am not sure what to do. I know I have the drive to takr on the violin, but what are the chances I could EVER get into music school with it? Woulf six years be realistic? Or am I just crazy? I feel like I took the wrong road by initially choosing piano. I want to be a professional violinist someday. As in, being an instructor and performing with a band or local orchestra, nothing huge.
Does anyone have any advice on what I should do here? I am so lost. Thanks.
