My school just started playing assassins last week and it is shockingly intense. For anyone who doesn’t know, assassins, at least at my school, is a game where teams of four are assigned another team of four to kill. To kill someone you either poison them or use the water method. Poisoning involves putting salt or sugar in any food they eat (video of poisoning and consumption required) while the water method basically involves getting someone wet in any way possible. Poisoning is allowed basically 24/7 while the water method can’t be used to kill during school hours as long as the target is on school grounds. It gets more complicated as it goes on but that’s that gist!
Does anyone have stories or strategies to share about this game?
It sounds despicable. I would consider either of those to be assault. Proceed carefully and accordingly.
Don’t involve yourself in this.
I’m surprised that assassin is still a thing in today’s day and age. My husband played a very intense game 30years ago. Constantly looking over his shoulder and was a big distraction from classes.
And please don’t use squirt guns. Too many incidents lately.
@ladyconstellation My sister competed in this during her senior year! They had a big prize pool, some $1000. She actually got out while we both were at CVS after school—someone squirted her. I don’t have any strategies cause I’m a sophomore but I just know it’s good fun; all seniors participated in it. Have fun and don’t lose!
It’s a huge thing with my school, at least with junior boys. They play with Nerf. They’re very into it.
Assassins was a huge thing during my senior year as well. You should be aware that some local police departments crack down hard on it (mine did). Just tell your kids not to be stupid - we had multiple people who got into car crashes while playing the game.
My son and his senior class did the game last year. They had a lot of fun and there were no incidents. They didn’t do the poisoning part, just squirt guns. Their class president made a twitter page where they could post pics and updates. Strategy-wise, the only thing I can remember is giving up my garage parking spot to my son while he was playing so he didn’t get ambushed walking to/from his car. Good luck!
My sons did this at scout summer camp when they were staff members. The rules were NO campers were involved, only those staffers who specifically agreed to take part could be targeted and people could only be assassinated when they were off duty and out of the areas where campers might be. The game ran anew each week and at the end of the summer the person who was assassinated the least (one of my boys) and the person who got the most targets (my other son) got a small prize. That said, I don’t think it’s a very good game to play during school.
D just made it to round 2 at our large, suburban school. It’s totally voluntary and there is prize money for winner. No teams, just one on one with water. Kids can’t hit targets at school, school events or entering work.
D is having fun and says she’s meeting kids she never knew as they strategize. It’s a tradition, that hasn’t had any incidents that I’m aware of. Local police are very aware and sent out reminders about using common sense and staying within the law, but otherwise, they seem ok with it, too.
