Hello, I am a junior in high school and I have a few concerns about my schedule and how it will affect how colleges look at me. I am taking four h/ap classes lang, apush, phsyics, and pre calc. I am also taking two regular classes that are spanish 3 and xc. In my state, California, the uc system of colleges have a system that require you to take a year of a fine and practical art. This semester I would like to take theatre 1a as my fine art. I am only taking one semester as I finished 1b as a freshmen. I am a very high rank in my class, about 4 or 5 in about 700. I do sufficent extracurriculars. I know that junior year is the most important in terms of grades. My question is since each ap class is weighted and assuming i get As, should I still take the fine art even though it will lower my average and put me a bit lower in class rank? Do colleges also look at your work load of classes and your grades rather than your weighted gpa? i find it troubling that some bimbo who is doing easier honors classes than me but only doing 5 is getting a higher average. the average would drop me down from 4.6 to 4.5. I do have a second question also, i have sustained an injury in xc and I cannot run at all this season, would colleges care a lot if i dropped the class but still come back to track next semester? I am not on varsity yet as our division is one of the best in the country but I would probably be if I was in another state. i'm good but not amazing. what should i do with my class and my sport? Any help would be appreciated.

I just think you should do your best. And honestly, do you think colleges will know if you didn’t run XC one semester? I mean if you put “cross country” on your application, do you really think they will investigate to see just how fast you ran, how many times have you done it and so on? It doesn’t matter. And also, with your classes, your class rank is awesome, but I don’t think a fine art will lower your GPA. It will actually raise it. Fine arts are easy, it is sort of an easy 100. But you do you have to take in consideration that while you are taking that fine art class, someone else is replacing it with an AP, raising their class rank. Honestly I would wait to take it my last semester of senior year, because by then they would have already named the valedictorian, salu, etc. … Hope this helps.

Did you really just call a classmate a bimbo? Not nice!
