Hello, everyone. I'm currently a high-school freshman that will be doing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program once I reach junior year, and I have a few questions regarding college admissions.

1) I'm currently taking IB Spanish 4, meaning that I can take IB Spanish 7 in senior year and receive a bilingual diploma. Is a bilingual IB diploma helpful in college admissions?

2) I skipped 1st grade when I was younger. Will this affect me positively, negatively, or not at all?

3) I've read that colleges look for "focus" in extracurriculars - is it ever a detriment to take an EC?

Thank you in advance!

1) that would be amazing! i don’t know much about IB since my school does AP instead, but i’m sure that graduating with a bilingual diploma would look really good.

2) it won’t affect you at all.

3) i don’t think it would ever be a detriment; however if you join a lot of ECs without showing that you’re interested in them, those ECs won’t help you get in. the ‘focus’ people talk about is showing a passion; if you’re interested in a lot of things it’s fine to take ECs in all of them, but try to show 1 or 2 that you’re particularly interested in. for example if your love is music but language clubs sound fun too (and while they sound fun, it’s not particularly a passion), joining chorus or band might be better than spanish club because your passion for music would shine through.
