AST 301 Professor Suggestions

Hey guys! SO I've already registered for my classes, AST 301 being one of them. Does anyone suggest a particular professor for this class? I'm registered for Wills, but I've been told that Winget is one the best. Thank you!

Yes take Winget, he is the best one. I took his class last year and it was pretty good. You don’t have to do any math in that class either. There are 4 multiple choice exams and he drops 1. You could also replace another exam by doing an optional project. Each test has 5 questions from the previous tests, so by the 4th one, you have 15 questions that you already know the answers for. In addition, 10% of your grade comes from attending a star party which is easy. The only thing was that his tests were kind of hard so go to class and the review session that the TA holds before the exam and study. I got an A with some effort in this class but I like Astronomy anyways so it wasn’t as bad for me. He curves little bit although not much.

If you are going to take the second part of Astronomy, then take AST 309N with Wheeler after this class.

ok awesome, thank you! I love astronomy so I definately wouldn’t mind studying. My main concern was finding a professor that doesn’t just read off a power point presentation, you know?

Well this guy has power points but he goes into more details than what’s on the power point. But power points are pretty common now in most of the intro level classes.

Yea, I see your point. Does AST 309N involve more mathematics?

No math in that class either. Wheeler is the only one that teaches that class. His power points are more detailed. I found his exams easier but you HAVE to read carefully because one word can change up everything. I never made anything less than 96 on his exams.

Take Astronomy 301 with Don Winget, if his class is full then don’t take the class at all, its not worth your time and effort. Avoid Dr. Robinson’s class as he is a grad professor so he expects a lot more then what is normally required and if you did not have exposure to physics and chemistry your going to be screwed in his class.

I don’t know about who you should take, but I would definitely not take Scalo. He was very confusing, spacey, disorganized, and would go back and forth between subjects. So if you happen to need to change around your schedule, I would recommend not taking him.
