ASU or UA

I'm from Nebraska and I am looking to go to school in Arizona. I've visited both AU and ASU but it was over winter break so I really didn't get any idea as to what campus life it like. I know ASU has a reputation as a party school but all schools seem to be party schools. So what are some main points of campus life for both UA and ASU?

Same question on UA.

hehe...i have no idea... father disuaded me from applying to ASU so I'm applying to UNL. He said that ASU isn't as good as UA though...whatever.

I'd have to say that ASU's surrounding area is a lot better than Tucson and U of A. Also, ASU is building up its honors program, which looks like really nice if that is of any interest to you. Hope this helps!

Dude ASU all the way. That is where they film most of the GGW videos.

My vote goes to UofA. Get in their Honors College if you can, and it's a pretty good school. They have this new dorm for the Honots College kids, and everything's pretty chill.

Most people instate (who do well in school) usually choose U of A over ASU because basically every department at UA is much much better than that at ASU. But for campus life, there are pros and cons of both.

ASU: ASU is a lot more like say NYU where the buildings are kinda like office buildings in the middle of Tempe surrounded by clubs, shops, bars, hang outs. Its an awesome place to party (Mill Avenue) and named one of the best party towns. The Gammage gets lots of touring theatre (musical theatre and plays) because its the largest theatre in AZ and its sponsored by MBI. Its basically in the city of Phoenix and theres just a lot more things to do?

UA: not in a huge party scene like ASU. UA u get the more "college feel" its a lot more closer knit. ASU has 50,000+ undergradutes. UA is MUCH MUCH smaller. There is still plenty to do at UA, parties, student productions what not. I know lotsa people who go to UA who enjoy it a lot. UA is also only 1.5 hours from downtown phoenix. (they predict that tuscon and phoenix will be joined sometime in the next few decades since the cities just sprawl). its really not that far and lotsa UA people come up to phoenix all the time.

as for living, UA's new dorms such as the new honors dorms and then a few other dorms like La Paz are amazing (but they are all filled already). ASU doesnt have very many good dorms, Cholla and Sonora are ok (the best but not good compared to UA) but those are filled as well. Campus layout at UA and ASU are similar, everything is really really spread out, but UA is prettier =).

if u want to party 100% of the time go to ASU, if u like academics and partying go to UA. they both have good social life i would suggest the honors college at UA =P

I am from Arizona although and although I do not attend UA or ASU, I did apply to both and know my fair share about them.

shrek pretty much got it right in that most people who do well academically go to UA just because it is higher ranked in pretty much every department than ASU. UA nationally is also known as a better school because ASU cannot get rid of its party school rep--which is rightly has.

ASU is a huge commuter school and many many freshman go home on the weekends. so while it is a huge party school, it is also dead on many weekends if you dont want to just go to the frats and get drunk all the time. I know lots of my friends struggled wtih what to do besides drink, because so much of it does revolve around drinking. Most of the time they just go to the movies now or go clubbin' on mill avenue. But ASU doesnt even feel like a college as there are big streets that run all through it. It seems just like buildings in the middle of a city.

UA is still a huge state school with a total population of 37,000 plus. It is located in tuscon which pretty much has nothing besides the college so if you want the college town this is for you. There is much more of a college feel with less students going home on the weekend. people still party but also just more hanging out goes on. UA has a campus to itself that is really pretty and such.

I may be biased because i would have gone to UA (i got into both honors programs at ASU and UA) because even though ASU's honors programs has a great repuation, the school as a whole was not what i was looking for.

Thanks for the replies but I have another question. I want to attend business school and possibly major in finance or marketing. I've heard good things about both schools business programs but which one would be better for what I am interested in?

Both are great. Undergrad go with UA, MBA go with ASU.

Personally i would ask myself what i really want out of a college expersience? UA and ASU are very similar, academics wise. Anyway you go, its all what you make of it. Personally im going to ASU because its a good fit for me.

Both schools have great weather but the similarities stop there. ASU is a Tier III school UA is ranked #98 of top universities. ASU has a much livelier city surrounding it with Mill ave's bars if youre old enough to drink or have a good fake ID. on a recent visit to ASU it appeared as though almost all the students were there for hanging out, everywhere. They all looked like Ken and Barbie clones sporting their best fashions, sunglasses and tans. The actual campus at the UA was by far nicer. As far as Biz programs here are the US News facts:
Biz Program: UA # 20 ASU #25
Marketing: UA # 18 ASU # 16
Operations UA NR ASU #16
Management: UA NR ASU # 19
MIS UA # 3 ASU #17
Entrpnr UA # 9 ASU NR

UA has better basketball. :-D

I'm from Arizona and study business at Penn(Wharton). If you want to study business undergrad in AZ go to ASU...In general UA is a better school. However, as a business program ASU is much stronger. They are both ranked the same in USNWR. Yet ASU has better profs, a new dean (the former dean here at Wharton) whose goal is to greatly improve ASU's business school, plus it has a better reputation with out of state recruiters (in state it really depends where your employeer went to school - many people here in the state are biased towards one or the other). I also think that ASU Honors college is much better than UofA's primarily because it is more developed. If you want to go to grad school ASU Honors has a 98% success rate with getting its applicants into their top 2 med, law, business, & grad school choices.

Personally I think that UofA in general is much better. However, I think that the business school and the Honors college at ASU are better than UofA's. The reason that many people in Phoenix chose to go to UofA (above people mentioned that the smart kids go to UofA) is because people just want to leave home and have a more "real" college experience.

btw, the Wildcats are taking the NCAA this year.

U of A is a beautiful campus , lots of trees , grass, a nice college town, good academics. Phoenix is hotter, more concrete, more urban, better concerts, plays. U of A in general is better academics , students we know seem happier at U of A . ASU however is developing an amazing honors program with great professors and wonderful opportunities, great grad school acceptance rates. Definitely a good alternative financially to an expensive private schol. They are quite generous with fin aid as well.

What about science?

U of A is much better for science.
