wich 1 and why
i got accepted to both

Yes, please, info. Son is interested in biomedical engineering, and both these schools came on our radar. Would definitely be in a different part of the country than we've ever been to.

this is hard to say... i hear they are equal... i need some help too :-(

In my opinion, U of A is better overall, and Barrett at ASU is great if you get into it. U of A is considered a public ivy, but that has been debated on CC. Both schools receive lots of grants for science, especially U of A. If you are more of a partier, then ASU is for you.

asu sucks. i've lived in tempe my whole life. the dance students my mom taught made fun of me after she died. not a very nice place imho.

If you get into Barrett, go to ASU. If not, U of A.

i found the post regarding partiers to go to ASU and not UA. Is there honestly a difference in the amount of partying that goes on? Because i plan on partying alot but i cant decide on asu or ua

Pretty much any college you go to will have "partying". I'd say the difference in amount of it between the two schools is negligible.

There's parties everywhere. I'd say it has more to do with you socially than the school you pick. If you want a party, you can easily find a party.

from what i hear, the greek life in asu has been going down because asu is trying to get rid of their “party school” image and therefore are enforcing stricter rules on drinking. uofa on the other hand has a dominant greek life because there is virtually nothing to do besides campus activities. however, tucson is a beautiful city. but then again, everywhere you go you’re going to see mountains and cacti and palm trees… all of arizona is like that! i haven’t been to UA before, only drove past tucson when i was going to mexico which took like 1 minute no joke. as for the whole partying thing, college is college and there will always be parties.

It’s just that living in arizona, ASU is the major party school and U of A is a party school. And Tucson has tons of activities, you just need to know where to find them.

Im new to the site but i have been reading up on ASU and U of A. I am accepted at both schools for civil engineering. From what i hear ASU has a better honors college and engineering. But im not in the honors college there. I toured both schools and met with people in the engineering departments. U of A scheduled my entire day with tours, classes to sit in on, and students to meet and show me around. At ASU they finally emailed me back a day before i came and gave me about 30 min. with a office lady to show me around, i didnt really learn anything new that i hadn’t already known…i am thinking it would be wiser for me to go to U of A where they have been extremely nice and willing to help me. But i dont know if ASU has a better name when i graduate?? any input??

For civil engineering, I would say U of A. Both schools can have administrative problems, so that doesn’t necessarily mean that ASU didn’t want you. But, it sounds like U of A wants you, which is a bonus. Did you get any scholarships?

Arizona is considered better, but not by too much. Like it or not- Perception is reality.

I go to ASU and I have to say that before getting here my main concerns were: I’m not a partier, will I fit in? Does this mean no one studies/care/graduates? It’s such a big school, I don’t know if I can handle it.

Well, now I can assure you that none of those concerns were worth the worry. Yes, I have partied here and there but no one made me and I certainly have many amazing memories that don’t involve parties or alcohol. Yes, there are people who don’t care, there always will be. But there are so many people that do, myself included. There are so many amazing resources for you like success coaching and free tutoring that help you stay on track and succeed, even my adviser worked miracles for me. And the size of ASU is pretty irrelevant, unless you’re in the student section at a game. Then it just makes it all the more fun. Honestly, living on campus I run into people I know all the time and I love it. I got involved with clubs, joined a sorority and now ASU is my home. And I have to say that unlike U of A, Greek life isn’t something you have to do at ASU. It’s just one of the many things you can join, there’s something for everyone and always something to do. It’s a beautiful place and I’m not sure many people can say that about Tucson.

U of A is in Nothing-To-Do-Scon. ASU and U of A both have a lot to offer anyone. As for Biomedical Engineering, both schools have great programs. I am going to be partial to ASU because I go to ASU, but ASU does offer a lot of great services. I’m not sure about U of A, but at ASU, you can take a class at any of the ASU campuses. They provide buses between campuses and the buses have Wi-Fi. ASU doesn’t have a prominent greek life, but that is perfectly okay with me. They’re still there; the frats and sororities aren’t just going to be banished, and you can join one and be part of the scene if you want to.

tucson is much better than the phoenix area
just saying but its personal preference
and u of a is in a nice area
i like it much more than tempe

If you’re looking for parties you’ll have no trouble finding them on any campus. ASU and U of A have very different surroundings - ASU is in s city, U of A is in one of America’s larger towns. ASU has college sports and professional sports nearby, in Tucson they talk about U of A sports as though they were professional sports because they’re the biggest thing in town. Tucson has lovely outdoor activities - camping, hiking etc. but the Phoenix area is closer to good skiing if winter sports interest you. Driving across the border to Mexico from U of A used to be fun - and common, not so sure that’s a good idea any more thanks to the drug cartels and border violence. ASU is surrounded by a huge sprawling city - with all the business, industry and opportunity that that implies.

Greek life dominates the social scene at U of A, ASU has a much more ecclectic social matrix. Both campuses have beautiful facilities and the weather is fantastic.

The honor programs are completely different. Barrett is a true honors college, U of A allows all students with a 3.5 after one semester to join honors.

U of A has many historic buildings as dorms - most ASU dorms are of a more modern era and design.

I’ve heard good and bad at both regarding visits/scheduling tours etc. - I don’t think the good or bad at either is an indication of how your life on campus will turn out. I do think visiting is essential to making a good choice. One man’s “best place on earth” can be anothers “he** hole in the sun”.

I am also considering going to U of A or ASU. I am going to be a pre med student but I don’t know which college is better for that. UA or ASU. Help me? Thanks!!

My personal opinion is that Barrett is better than u of a honors, but normal u of a is better than normal asu for premed. They both have the resources you need, though. Pick on fit. I was premed at asu.

According to someone who recently posted in this thread, it says that University of Arizona is considered a public ivy on CC. Is this true?
