Heck, don’t wait until next year to post. Please post and let us know how things are.

Lol I already got my decision from that dcad school I applied to in a haste last week hahah. They offered me an 8 thousand merit scholarship

Franny, it’s not what you get from a school that matters, but how much you will have to pay,

I know, I was js. Usf needs me to fill out a residency affidavit but I thought I already did sigh.

Best of luck!

By the way, from someone that is attending community college (I’m graduating in May and transferring to a four-year school), a two-year school is not the end of the world. I promise! So if you decide to go to community college for financial reasons, there’s nothing wrong with that. Like you, I was a good student in high school and my teachers, counselor, and parents were sure that I would get accepted at any college I wanted to go to. They were right, I did get accepted everywhere I applied (Loyola, UMBC, Tulane, TCNJ, Ohio University HTC), but the money just wasn’t there. My parents said they could take out loans (around 30K a year), but I wasn’t interested in accumulating that much debt for a degree in game design. Also, I got in the honors program at my local community college and got a full scholarship there for two years. My teachers have been fantastic and I’ve received a strong foundation in digital media. Another plus, I’ve gotten most of my Gen Ed credits out of the way and I can transfer knowing that I saved two years of college tuition.

I don’t know much about USF, but based on your academic achievements and resume, I think you will be successful at any school you go to. (^_^)

Fran I’ve just read the whole thread…you should be congratulated for being such an amazing young woman.

Good luck trying to get in some where before the end of the summer.

I just spent a half hour reading all of this thread, ha ha. I don’t have much advice, just wanted to wish you good luck. My daughter is in Orlando, has been accepted to UCF but doesn’t really want to go there. I wanted to tell you, and not sure if you ever thought of Rollins, but if you do end up taking a year or going to Valencia (which is not a bad CC!) Rollins gives out lots of great scholarships to students with your stats! My daughter is going to have to take out a total of $28K over 4 years (and live at home), and kids that did better than her…which sounds like you, got even more aid than she did. And we didn’t get much of any aid from anywhere else she applied because my husband makes to much even though we can’t afford much. I am hearing over and over how much aid kids got from Rollins which is an awesome school, and they have lots of money to give to kids with really good grades like you. Good luck sweetie…I hear you on everyone trying to sell you on “oh you’ll get a full ride somewhere with your grades”, I wish you had gotten some better help. My D has several friends who have not even applied anywhere because they don’t have a parent to help them and their parents don’t have any $$…or are not even willing to help them pay the app fees or even help them look into how to apply. So sad. Good luck sweetie.

My friend got accepted to Rollins, and they gave her a merit aid scholarship and aid but she still would have to take out 17k in loans to go. She’s kind of in the same boat as me, with only had applied to private schools.

If my daughter were going to live on campus, she would have to take out more loans, she would need almost $20,000 per year instead of the $7,000 she will need now. I’ve been thinking about you, hoping it all works out for you. My daughter told me today she has several friends in the same boat as you, that cannot afford to go to the schools they got accepted to and she said they have had luck with UCF. They have a rolling admission and had no problem getting in this late in the game with good stats like you have. UCF, I know is not the school you want, but I’m sure you know it is an excellent school. If my D did not have the scholarship offer from Rollins, it would have to be UCF, and she would have been ok with that. In fact, most of her friends are going to UCF and are ELATED to be going there! Our valedictorian from her high school last year is going to UCF, he is going to be a lawyer. He had many, many choices, and chose UCF. We also know some really, really smart kids, who got into some amazing colleges, with some merit scholarships but still would have to take loans and are opting to go to Valencia instead, just to save the money. Don’t give up, find someone to help you. My daughter’s school has an excellent college and career center and the counselor in there is wonderful, not sure if your school has someone great like she does, but drop in to them and see what they can help you with. Good luck sweetie.

Yeah she would have to live on campus (my friend). We live in a smallish town about 45 mins or more away from any of the major cities where these colleges are located. Thankfully my mom is gonna move so commuting wouldn’t be a problem for me if I end up having to live off campus. Thanks for your words of encouragement. The guidance counselors (except for the new one we got this semester who works with students with scholarships) are generally unhelpful and clueless, although nice but nice doesn’t help me.

Franny, I can’t tell if DCAD is still on your list, but PM me if it is & you have any questions. I have neighbors who are founding faculty members there.

Hey guys! I got accepted to UCF. I got an email saying to register for orientation and I was like um what so I checked myucf and it says I was accepted. With bright futures, pell grant, and a UCF grant they are offering me like 6k in free monies which is enough to cover tuition.

Wow! I wish every kid had your initiative and follow-thru.

They are lucky to get you. Good luck to you. I’m very impressed.

Franny, you have made all of us proud, and this thread will hopefully help many people in the future…

Good for you, you go girl, and way to go. Keep up the can-do attitude, and you will go far in life!!!

Congrats Frannie!!!

I am so happy that everything has worked out and that there is going to be enough money so you can do this. It is not a matter of what school you go to but what you do when you get there.

I have every confidence that you are going to do great things

Yay and congrats franny!

Congrats! I just sent you a PM before I read the end of this thread. I’m happy everything worked out!

Congratulations Franny. What relief you must feel. Great job. I have no doubt you will do well in whatever goals you set. YEA!

franny101, you’re a star! congrats :)))
