Chapman is currently my first choice for college (for film production) but I don't think I'll be able to take on as much debt as their current package has me doing. I received the Deans scholarship and have an EFC of 0, and they're already giving me a very generous package, which I'm so thankful for. However, I would have a full ride at a state school in NJ, so the thought of taking on about 60,000 in debt (with no help from my parents) is overwhelming. The point of my post is, has anyone tried or been successful to get a more money in aid? How would you suggest going about it?

im srry i cant help but i would like ot know about this too, since i feel like i can’t afford 90% of the cost. same EFC here too. and im plan on applying next spring.

You can give it a try. I haven’t heard of a story from chapman but my friend from a top ranked university in VA appealed for aid and received $2k or $3k more I believe. Not much but it def helped her for her first year. She has been applying to more scholarships for her second year to further help the costs. Either way, she’s still in debt.

If you appeal the worst that can happen is that they say no. Just try to write a very persuasive letter and tell them how much you really want to attend. I’m sure they’ll take you into consideration but you will never know unless you try.

Do you have any offers from other universities? This is not my area of expertise, but I have heard of colleges matching awards that other colleges have made. Perhaps post on the financial aid thread at CC?

I do have quite a few other offers of admission, but unfortunately only a few got back to me on finances.
Any one else have any advice or experience?
