At this point, am I going to have any chance of getting into a t-14 law school?

So I'm a second semester freshman at a small, competitive liberal ars college that's pretty well known for grade deflation. I kind of screwed up my first semester and ended up with around a 2.1ish GPA first semester. Since then, I've gotten it together and am actually making decent grades but I'm kind of afraid that the damage is irreparable. Over spring break, I took a practice LSAT and scored a 170 so I'm hoping that if I study, by the time I'm actually applying to law school it'll be decent. I'm worried though that it isn't going to matter because my GPA probably isn't ever going to be high enough to get into really competitive schools. I'm also planning on being a philosophy major so if I don't end up in law school, I'm kind of stuck without many options. Should I just give up on the law school path/find a new major?

Also I'm an URM if that matters.

Take another practice LSAT to make sure that 170 wasn’t an anomaly, maybe consider transferring to another school not known for grade deflation, and maybe major in something that will help you get a job after college.

Play around with this to see what your GPA will be:

Not sure such a college exists. (What is the mean GPA of your college? If 3.3+, it is average.)

Regardless, URM is a plus. High LSAT is a big plus, and perhaps 55%+ of LS admissions. GPA is the other half.

I believe an AA female just got accepted into Columbia with a 3.3, and a 17x.

Good luck.

fwiw: don’t waste your time taking practice tests now. You have a couple of years of college to experience first.

The average GPA is a 2.9 and in the past 25 years only 10 people have graduated with a 4.0 (and 7 of them were transfers).

DO your best now, see what your gpa is after junior year, take an actual LSAT and you will have a better idea as to where you stand

If you want to be a lawyer - if you would crawl over broken glass with your entrails staked to a fire ant colony to be a lawyer - then continue on the path to law school. If you do not want to be a lawyer that badly, then don’t bother with law school.

jeez you’re a friggin freshman go live your life and talk to us in 3 years

wait, what? you took the a practice test with no prep and scored 170? not sure if srs…

if you are a URM and score a 170+ on the real thing, you will get into a t-14, guaranteed, so long as your GPA is like a 3.0.
