I'm an antheist..and looking to go into Villanova. I know it's a catholic school that accepts all religions, but I was wondering if someone who want to Villanova could tell me how much the Catholic influence really affects the campus life?

Seriously, KMh09, why would you bother? There are so many other great options that are not premised on the belief that Jesus is the reason for existence. Furthermore, there are so many people out there just waiting to get into such an excellent, faith-based school where they have an opportunity to grow intellectually and spiritually, together. Give your spot to someone who cares about their faith - any faith, for that matter - and move on!

Why would I bother?? Hmmm maybe because Villanova is a great academic school for what I want to study. I must be CRAZY to want to go there and not grow spiritually huh? Well I guess since I already got accepted it’s too late to “give my spot to someone who cares about faith”…thanks for your kind words and all your help.

As stated in several other posts, religion really isn’t very serious at Villanova. You will be fine… you only have to take 2 theology courses.

Listen, I’m not trying to ruffle your feathers here. I guess I also figured in the back of my mind that a self-proclaimed atheist would not be easily ruffled - (“why”???) - just really don’t understand why you would make this choice when there are so many other options more suited to your atheistic orientation. I’ve always understood Villanova to be a largely conservative, religious place (based on many personal contacts and research). How an atheist could feel comfortable there is beyond me, unless of course s/he likes to sport a rebellious attitude as well :)

I have a friend who goes to Nova, and yes, he is an atheist. Sure, there is a cross on every building, but the school is very open to everyone’s religious beliefs or lack thereof. Don’t sweat it. The Fathers won’t come after you with holy water or anything.

yeah, no one cares. just two semesters where they make $3000 lol

If it’s anything like the high school I go to now, no one really cares. Just take the class and live your life. That’s what I plan on doing (yay Villanova :D)

Do kids care if u are asian or anything? will it matter? Also are club sports everyday like varsity sports?

The way I see it Aetheism is very much just a different type of faith. As long as your open minded I think that you might enjoy learning about another type of faith.

I don’t think it will make a difference now. You will go to Hell when you die, so have a good time in college.

Yeah, Villanova is a Catholic school, but when you put together 6,000 rich white kids, you’re not going to have a huge conservative population. Although Sunday mass is a big thing, it’s not really a religious mass. People of all faiths attend the student service and it’s more of a reflection on the past week than a time for worship.

I’m going there next year too, and although I’m Catholic, I really wouldn’t worry if I were you. You won’t be shunned because you don’t believe. Trust me, most of the kids there are only Catholic in the fact that they listed it as their religion to get more brownie points when applying. Most aren’t too serious about it (including myself) and the friars know and understand that.
