Atheist going to SCU?

Thoughts? I’m not out to bash anyones religion at all, but I am curious as to the presence of the religious “vibes” on campus. I know there are required religion courses, but I don’t mind that.

If there are any non-religious people (or religious too) who would like to speak about their experiences with the fact that it is a Jesuit school?

@TheGuy38, I’m religious with my faith on the fence. As a Jesuit school, there are definitely ties to the Catholic religion; however, the focus at SCU is to develop knowledge that will be all-encompassing. Therefore, you can be as present or as removed from the “vibes” on campus. For me personally, I’ve faced a multitude of religious and political views: one of my classes focused a lot more on non-religion (it was a Gender Studies class); I’m currently taking an Asian religion class; and I will be focusing on Christianity in the future. Indeed, there are a lot of religious views, but I encourage you to keep your mind open.

I know one Jewish student very well, he has had a great experience at SCU. That said, the campus is built around an historic mission - so there are religious symbols everywhere and some activities happen in the and around the old chapel. It certainly is a Catholic campus - the Christian vibe is more prevalent than UoP but, less prevalent than Pepperdine.

I think you should ask yourself what you are looking for in your college experience. What about SCU appeals to you that you can’t find in an agnostic environment? If that list is long then, be a Bronco.
