Is it true that athletes move-in earlier than the rest of the students?

Depends on the school. Fall sports season usually starts very shortly after classes (or sometimes before classes if your school starts later in September) so there’s a pretty good chance this is true, but check with your school. If you’re on an athletic team this info should be given to you in some form by the coach/advisor or the school.

I think at my school (SUNY Albany), it depends on the sport, but football practice is starting up this week, so I assume all the football players are moved in already… However, no date is listed separately on emails we get about move-in dates. I don’t typically hang out with serious athletes that much because they don’t tend to be in my major and I go to a huge school, so I can’t say anything for certain, but as the previous person mentioned, I think it greatly varies by school.

@CheerOutLoud @lang92 thank you!

Yes. I run cross country and track at the university I go to and we normally move in 1-2 weeks earlier than everyone. Some sports move in even earlier, like football at my school moves in a month before everyone.

Since the fall practices start before the beginning of classes, those athletes pretty much have to move in early. Some marching band members have to do the same - the marching band at my daughter’s school ends up being drafted to serve as box haulers for incoming freshmen.

At one school that I knew of, the band members did not move into their academic year rooms, but were housed together and then their parents brought the rest of the stuff on the regular move in day and the went from the practice dorm to their “real” rooms. That was a royal pain.
