i am a junior who can run a 4:10 mile. went to state for cross country and i lead my basketball team to a league championship. academically my stats are OK. is 4:10 good enough for Stanford ??
Look through the bios here for the men’s track team. It should give you some info.
A typical rule of thumb for track recruits is being good enough to potentially score in the conference meet, and in the indoor mile in the MPSF (where Stanford competes in indoor track) this year there were at least 30 men faster than 4:10, including five Stanford men. Stanford’s top mark this year was 3:53.95. You can see this on TFRRS and other sites.
No harm in contacting the coach - and that’s the only way to know for sure - but my guess is 4:10 is not fast enough to be a recruit at Stanford or other top D1 track programs. Assuming your 4:10 is an indoor mile time. There might be some slower walk ons who got into the school on their own though.
On the other hand though that time is fast for some of the top academic D3 schools, e.g. it would be the fastest time this year in the UAA.
