Thanks!!!!!!

I have no idea but I expect if you go to the websites you can see what times the runners are posting.

4:20 is good enough to talk with H, Y and P, but S would probably like to see a 4:15

wow does 5 seconds really make that much of a difference in the mile?

ask the guy who runs a 4:20 how hard he thinks it will be to run a 4:15

Or more to the point, how many high school guys can run a 4:20 compared to the number who can run a sub 4:15? The small group in the sub 4:15 are who the top D1 programs are looking for.

yeah i guess i can see what you’re talking about. I never ran on a team, but it seems like once you get to the low 4 minute range it would be literally just running as fast as your legs will physically let you run for a mile. I used to run like a 6:30 so i have no idea haha…

In track and field 5 second is a big deal man.

In the spring of 2011, 28 senior boys in the US ran a sub-4:15 mile, 78 ran sub-4:20 and 249 ran sub 4:25.

You’re going to need to give us more information than that. If you want to run track, than
I assume you want to be a mid-distance runner. What’s your 800m time? Anything sub 1:54 will help you. If thats the only time you have, its going to be a lot harder to get attention from coaches. They like to see well-rounded runners meaning athletes who can succeed in multiple events.

Your best shot is Yale. Don’t be afraid to email each coach from the schools you mentioned. If you’re a senior in high school now, than you have track this spring to bring that mile down even more down to around the low 4:10s. All of these schools get amazing athletes who also succeed in the classroom. Hopefully you have an amazing GPA and extra curriculum activities behind that mile time.

Email the coaches and ask them. Show that you’re interested in running for them. This doesn’t annoy them in fact they take it as a compliment and are usually welling to work with you. They may give you a time to hit this spring which would guarantee your spot on the team.

My times in high school were 4:20 for the 1600m, 9:19 for the 3200m, and 15:40s for the 5k so you’re probably around there. Chico State and UC Davis invited me to be on their team (Chico State being a top ranked D2 team and Davis being a D1 school). Don’t limit yourself to just Ivy League schools.
