Athletic Recruitment - Womens Basketball

Usually what does it take to get into the women's basketball program at Stanford? Do only the best players, MVPs, etc. have a chance of getting recruited? I'm not the number one player on my team but one of the top players.

you need to be a national recruit- one of the top players in the country. stanford womens hoops has been one of the top programs in the US for the past 20 years or so- outstanding tradition. i follow womens college basketball recruiting very intently, and unless you are at the very least an all regional hs player, you probably wont get recruited to stanford. you can try for less competitive womens bball schools, or play club/intermural.

Roster is here:

http://gostanford.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/stan-w-baskbl-mtt.html

You could probably Google some of the names and find out what their HS achievements were.

Actually just click in each players name on the roster and details, including their HS accomplishments, pop up. Stanford is a pretty tall order and huskem55 hit it dead on ... you need be national class to be recruited at a top 10 program like Stanford. Some top basketball program do have 2-3 walk-ons as roster fillers ... it's worth contacting their coach to find out if you're in the hunt or not. Standford is the very top of the hoops mountain for women's hoops and there are a ton of other great schools with excellent bball programs. Given your post ... looking at Stanford (top student) and a good HS player ... one place to look might be in D3 ... try this site www.d3hoops.com ... no scholarships but a lot of quality hoops at some GREAT schools. Good luck! (I'd also suggest searhing on "recruiting" ... there a bunch of posts on recruiting with a lot of great advice in them)
