I’d also be cautious about what you’ve read, BrownParent. We’ve all read stories where students are given full-ride merit scholarships to Stanford, or a full athletic scholarship to Harvard. It is about as reliable as eyewitness testimony in court cases.

Right, and since the person was claiming that her athlete child got tuition, room, board covered with combined athletic and need based. That would suggest a low/zero EFC. If so, then the athletic portion combined with federal grants could cover all costs. Fed grants aren’t a problem since no games with those.
So to capsulize … One cannot get BOTH institutions’s need based grant $$$ AND athletic scholarship $$$?
Basically, yes. If the student gets need based aid, it is counted against the team’s maximum. For accounting reasons, most don’t award need based financial aid to athletes.
