Does anyone know how competitive athletics are at boarding schools? Preferably in the NE area and in basketball or soccer. Also, are there tryouts or will you be automatically placed in a JV or Varsity team by preference?

Boarding school athletics can be very competitive and most sports at these competitive schools sports wise have Varsity, JV, club/intramural, and other levels of the sport based on skill and competence.

Soccer and bball are very competitive at all boarding schools. The larger schools will typically field 3 or more interscholastic squads: V, JV, thirds, and fourths. Selection is by tryout. Depending on the school, there may also be intramural or club options.

Thirds teams FTW!
