hey guys,
I know athletics and NYU dont go together quite well lol, but I am certainly interested in playing tennis.

I am ranked in the top 1000 in the nation for boys 16s(50 something in NY-State), a "2 star recruit" on tennis recruiting.net, and I am possibly an all-county player( Suffolk on LI).
knowing that NYU is D3, Im pretty sure I'll easily be able to play.(trust me, I know D3 tennis players lol). not to mention NYU is ranked real low for D3 tennis.

anyways, what would be the best way to get on the Tennis. As a junior, should I begin emailing the coach now. or is it like a HS-style tryout in the spring/fall.

plus, how much would tennis affect me in the admissions process (if at all)?

When an NYU admissions officer came to our school to meet with students he said something like: "If you like sports, sports teams or want a sports school... NYU may not be for you".

So, while dedication to a sport looks good (this will help you, just like being in a club helps someone), you will probably not get a leg up over other students for it.

TcherryPie, its tough to answer this question because I like you am a tennis player (Top 5 for the easter-southern region, first singles for my team, play national tournaments - flushing meadows, texas, etc) and we both have to just face the facts that NYU REALLY doesn't want athletes. I mean, like other people have said, im sure it looks good but to be honost, I dont think the coaches at NYU recruite anyway - correct me if im wrong but I've NEVER heard someone say, "O, I've been recruited for football at NYU." It just doesnt happen. But there are PLENTY of other schools, many of the top schools (including the ivies), that would jump for joy to have athletes.....just NOT NYU lol. best of luck tho
