Athletics/Walking on?

I'm a newly admitted 2017 and I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about the athletics program at Dartmouth. I'm a diver, but I didn't pursue athletic recruiting because I wasn't sure I wanted to be a college athlete. However, I'm interested in walking on to the team, or at least trying to. Does anyone have any experiences with walk ons for diving (and swimming too, since I don't think diving is very popular and the programs are under the same head coach)? Or any thoughts/tips in general would be good. Thanks!

I’m also interested in this. I’ve been thinking about walking onto crew. Anyone have any advice?

My D (13) assures me that the diving/swimming and rowing teams are totally open to walk-ons: “definitely for womens crew. on the swim team they don’t cut as long as you can keep up with workouts.”

stupiddorky, i think (from a prior post) you’re female (forgive me, please, if i got that wrong). one of the assistant coaches (anne.kennedy@dartmouth.edu) appears to be recruiting coordinator, and you could email her.

I am! Thank you for the info.

Absolutely do it if you want to make new friends in areas that you like. However, please note that DI athletics requires quite a large time commitment and if you are planning on professional or graduate school you will still need to keep up with your studies. S’14 roommate was on the football team and the time commitment was unbelievable.
