Atlas Shrugged Essay 2010

Anyone doing the Atlas Shrugged essay this year? I'm currently writing my essay.

I am! Which prompt are you doing?

oh whoops. didn’t realize that was posted so long ago.

It wasn’t that long ago, only about a week and one day.

do you guys think that ayn rand would have endorsed this? i think she would have advocated a student going out on his own and writing it, and then presenting it to other individuals…that’s more objectivist

im not putting the essay contest down, it just seems that that would have been more ideal from the perspective of her philosophy

As long as we’re doing it for the money, she might not have cared. (Ahem).

Personally I think this is an attempt by the ARI to get more people to read the book and think about Objectivism, and frankly I don’t mind if I win some money along the way.

It’s late November, and there’s still no update on winners.
Does anyone know the exact date it was posted on the website for the results to be announced?

The website indicated that entrants will be notified by today, the 27th. I find it odd, only because it’s a Saturday, but that’s what the site said. Hope that helps.

I haven’t heard of this; what is it? A scholarship from the Ayn Rand Institute?

yeah, have you heard anything yet today? i haven’t been notified of anything yet

I entered and haven’t been emailed.
Most offices close at 5 or 6 (plus it’s Saturday) so we’ll probably have to wait until Monday…

yeah, that sounds like the right thing to do. good luck to all of us… :D

I know I already said this, but it is odd that they’d say they’d email by today. Eh, we shall see. Good luck, everyone.

I’m a senior in high school, so just want semifinalist or something to put on my college apps
Good luck all!

Are they unpunctual every year or are we special?

They actually are pretty punctual every year. I did email the Institute on Saturday to see if they were still going to let people know by the end of the day, and I just received a response by Jason Eriksen, one of the individuals who helps to organize the contest. He apologized for the delay and informed me that the contest isn’t over! The finalists’ entries are still being judged. Erikson did note that all participants would be notified about their submission by the end of this week. Additionally, the winners will be posted online by the end of the week.

That gave me at least a little bit of hope. Hope that helps!

Thank you Yasmin!

Yeah, i received the same email from Jason… I’m so excited/nervous!

Any idea how competitive it is to get semifinalist?
I know there’s many many entries, but I’m guessing many of them aren’t as high-caliber as the winning ones. Wondering how good the essay has to be to be included.

If only I could haven’t finished the book earlier. I’m only up to page 266 and it’s very engaging. Too bad I hadn’t picked up the book earlier.

On a side note, I used Atlas Shrugged on my SAT essay. :D
