My S is applying to Juniata, Ursinus, F&M, and Gettysburg. Because of Sandy, we were unable to visit Juniata so he will have to see it as an admitted student if he gets in. Wondering whether significant number of students stick around on weekends? No Greek and small town, small school would be attractive to him. He is more of a nerdy video gamer who loves a heated debate on politics or internet culture. Thoughts about whether he'd find his niche at Juniata would be appreciated.

My S had many of these schools on his list and I would just suggest to you that you do your homework concerning Greek life at Gettysburg and F&M. Both have very large and active Greek communities. Best of luck in your seach!

The Greek/party vibe was why my niece decided against Gettysburg. She has several schools on her list that have some of that (Dickinson, for instance) but not as much as Gettysburg. What about Muhlenberg? Sounds maybe more like your son… Juniata is on my niece’s friend’s list. One of the other CC parents mentioned that transportation to Juniata can be a challenge.

I would encourage a look at Muhlenberg College as well. A very small Greek scene there. A great learning community! Best of luck.

We have yet to visit. We’ll be going on Pres Day.

I have spoken in depth to another family whose athletic daughter has already committed to Juniata. The Dad is a Bama alum and very aware of social aspects of colleges. The family found the school very welcoming and that kids remain on campus. The impression they received after several overnight visits is that the weekend atmosphere is low keyed but not lonely. More of hanging out and watching movies together.

Some kids do venture in small groups to Happy Valley for the weekends.

I am an Ursinus grad. Every weekend the activities board had something, even if it was just a movie or game night. I was surprised that Juniata did not have an organized event every weekend. They do seem to have an Arts program at least monthly.
