This is a major/subject matter I am very interested in. I already have a list of the 62 schools that offer this major, but I wanted to know any specifics anyone knew. I was also wondering about 4 yr. colleges that offer digital animation (with or without portfolio) besides UMich. Any info on these 2 majors is greatly appreciated.

last time I checked psu was the #1 meteorology school. closest thing that I saw related to digital animation was their film major; there's only 1 animation class, and they said it explored various techniques. I would assume digital would be one of them.

Celebrian - check into the Digital Arts and Sciences major at the University of Florida. Not sure about the animation aspect but it looks interesting.

A few years ago, I read an article, I think in the Wall Street Journal, extolling the meterology program at a very small, otherwise 4th ranked school in Vermont, Johnson State. The article said their meterology program is very well regarded by working meterologists and has a phenomenal placement rate. Johnson State has several tracks, depending on whether you want to work in broadcasting, for the National Weather Service, for private industry, in academia, etc. I don't know much else about the school except that it has a gorgeous setting, You may want to check it out.

celebrian:

Make sure you check out the Animation Industry Data Base site (aidb.com) and click on schools (on left, under Shortcuts). Unfortunately, many schools are listed that only have a course or two in digital animation, but it's a good starting point for research. Some schools to get you started: Purdue's Computer Technology program, RIT's Film and Animation program, and Drexel.

Thanks a lot! I thought I wouldn't get any responses. I'll be sure to take your suggestions

Here's US News list of schools with atmospheric science and meteorology. I wouldn't worry much about the rankings, but it's a good list of schools that offer this major.
