Attending live lecture...

I'm a transfer student starting in the fall that recently registered for popular business major courses. There were no sections left available for live lecture courses but many of the student staff said that even if you were registered for an online lecture course you could still attend the live lecture of the same course if you showed up early and took a seat. Is this true? Does anyone typically have a problem with students doing this? The classes I would be doing this for are Principles of Management, Business Stats, and Finance.

@UFKitten,

I am also a transfer student, but I started this past spring. All three of those classes are large lecture style and will most likely be in BRY130 (which has a LOT of seats), so don’t worry about if there are enough seats.

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend Tutoring Zone with Jon for QMB (Bus. Stats.), let’s just say that the professor for that class is very inefficient, but still kind with his grading methods. Again, if you want an A without having to stress yourself out, get Tutoring Zone for QMB.

I have taken QMB and FIN, but not MAN yet. Have any questions? Feel free to message me.

-Joey

Thanks Joey. All three classes will actually be in Stuzin 102. Know anything about this hall?

Oh yea, because of the construction that is currently going on. Stuzin is right in front of Bryan and it is on the smaller side, I would suggest getting there earlier (20 mins?) to choose a good seat, because it will fill up.

I also want to thank you, I had forgotten that I am taking MAN, so I too will need to get there early :/

I am confused. I am registered for FIN3403 and QMB3250, both online.

What is the difference between registering for the online sections/attending the lectures anyway and registering specifically for the lecture section?

Well from what I’ve been told the online lecture course shouldn’t be much more different than the live lecture. The live lectures are recorded and posted for you to watch so you aren’t missing out on anything. I personally just feel like I pay more attention when I’m sitting in a classroom listening to the teacher so I really wanted to go to the live lecture.

@ ryanx13,

There really is no difference to the two classes you mentioned, except that they are either labeled “online” or “live”.

Scenario A: You have signed up for a live class, you can either attend the live class, choose to watch online, or not watch the lecture at all.

Scenario B: You have signed up for an online class, you can either watch it online, attend the live class, or do neither.

So in essence, there is no difference.

-Joey

@UFKitten,

I would suggest attending all of the live lectures (that way you won’t end up getting backed up on online lectures), except for QMB. I again highly suggest that you purchase Tutoring Zone with Jon for QMB.

-Joey

Thank you!

Just go to the live lectures if you want. Nobody cares whether or not you do; attending them live is for your own personal benefit. It doesn’t matter if you registered for the online section. Also, I always recommend live over online, because then you won’t get lazy and fall behind on material, but there’s always the online recording as a backup if you can’t attend a lecture for whatever reason. :)

Is there no live lecture of FIN3403? Can’t find it on the schedule?

It says: “** SECTION 16B6 IS THE LIVE LECTURE OF A COURSE THAT IS ALSO **
** AVAILABLE ONLINE. EXAMS OCCUR IN THE EVENINGS ON THE UF CAMPUS. **”

But yet section 16B6 is listed as “WEB”…

Getting a seat in Stuzin 102 is going to be really difficult. I would imagine that after a couple weeks you might be able to get a spot but I can almost guarantee that it will not happen on the first day of class. The halls in Bryan are significantly larger so it is much easier to get a seat in those. It’s an inconvenience but just keep in mind that you are getting a brand new building in August 2014 (About Us » Planning, Design and Construction). Likely to be one of the nicest buildings on campus.

I’m a transfer student as well, majoring in Finance and minoring in Retail. Really unsure about my course load because I’m trying to study abroad in the spring so I need good grades this fall. Would it be better to take Bus Finance, Prin of Marketing, and Stats for Bus or Bus Finance, Prin of Management, and Prin of Marketing?

Also is the HP calculator we need for the finance class available at the bookstore?

@ryanx13

Buy it online at amazon or someplace else, bookstores usually have high mark ups, and thus higher prices.

Well that’s weird. It was listing the room and times for finance but now its gone and it all says WEB. What?

UFKitten, I was wondering the same thing.

It might be a glitch because if you click on section 16B6 to view the textbooks it says the meeting time at the top.

Oh, well that works too. Thanks!
