Hello,
I am stuck between Emory and Boston College. I plan to transfer either Sophomore or Junior year to Columbia or Georgetown. Which college do you think will help me gain an advantage when I apply as a transfer applicant? (Emory's rank is 17, BC is 34, if that matters. Geographically, I think Emory will have a better chance since colleges like geographic diversity?)

I have to decide by tonight. Thank you in advance for your input!

No difference due to either USN&WR rank or geog. div., you’re talking about nano hairs here. When the level of the school is discussed, differences may be seen between major differences such as between CCs or 3/4th tier and top 50, not 17 spots on a debatable ranking.

It’s what you do when you get to the school that counts.

while i can understand that georgetown sounds more appealing to you than BC, the schools are VERY similar overall, this may make a “why transfer” essay difficult of you are at BC, as schools often want a better reason that just name prestige/moving up.

Thank you so much to all for your inputs! In response to cgeorge, I had just wanted to go to Columbia/Georgetown specifically because they have amazing IR programs there. And in response to entomom, although rank was part of it, Emory also appealed to me because of its good PoliSci program and proximity to the Carter Center, a place where I hope to intern Again, thank you to all of you!
