Many might not care, but I have a huge problem with this change. I applied ED and got accepted. I applied to Penn mainly because of their strong 4 BE lab components. Now we have to take classes like statistics and more SSH classes. The freedom of choosing more science class is now gone. I decided to go to Penn because of its environment and course requirements, not to take more SSH classes. I have a huge problem since they changed the course requirements mid way and know I am stuck. Does anyone else have an issue? I think it would have been more reasonable to apply these requirements for the class of 2012 and beyond. At least they can see the course requirements before deciding ED.

Not to mention that they completely got rid of PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT, which is really important when it comes to getting a job. Is the same thing happening to all the other engineering majors as well?

If one does a lot of work in a lab, I can’t imagine statistics would not be important. Upon careful look, the main difference is 7 SSH versus 5 SSH. However, you can take BE303 as humanity elective and it is one of the PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT that you seem to care a lot about. So the difference is only really 6 SSH versus 5 SSH but there are many EAS and CIS (computer) courses that you can take to satisfy as SSH requirement. There is one less technical elective in the new curriculum, so you can use that slot to take more advanced science or engineering class if you want. I think the difference is very minor.
