Attn OOS kids, if your parents are illegal, you get the in-state rate!

Our brand new Democrat governor has stated that he will sign a bill that grants in-state tuition to children of illegals!

Is this a great state, or what?!

I really hope you're being sarcastic.

Its no joke! Check this out:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,247259,00.html?sPage=fnc.national/education

Maybe the guy that dries off my car can adopt my kids and get that sweet in-state deal at Chapel Hill! Of course they don't have crazy Democrats running their state.

thats gay, im from FL and i have to pay OOS tuition

Democrats...grumble

Sometimes common sense doesn't seem to figure in the equation. Can we become illegal, just for UMD purposes? (we're in NC). Good grief.

it says you have to be in high school for at least 2 years ... so that's like a resident already.

^^^^^Breaking the law for 2 years means you win a prize?

IMHO, the fact that illegal immigration is being ACCEPTED in this country is bad enough. the fact that it's being REWARDED? disgusting.

(please note: "disgusting" is not directed at immigrants, just my opinion of the policy on this issue)

Calm down, if the kid can actually make it into college and has been living in the state long enough to become a resident-illegal or not-give the kid a chance. Lol and being rewarded for breaking the law?? First off, everybody has broken the law one time in the life, millions of teenagers break them everyday drinking underage or downloading movies/music, no one has a problem with that. But they have a problem with those taking on *****ty jobs just to make a better life for themselves?? Thats something I certainly don't have any qualms with. In fact, I hope this bill is passed and I'll be rooting for the illegals that can make it into college...which will end up probably being a very small number as said in the article. i love rooting for the underdogs and you guys make me want to cheer for them even more!! lol its so funny seeing people getting mad over nothing

^^^^^With a FAFSA system that demands a parent pay for an adult child's college education, till they are 22 years old, this award is of most benefit to the parents. They are here illegally. Meaning against the law. They are not "undocumented" as in forgot their homework sort of stuff. They are continuing to break the law openly, every day, and you want to make us pay for their illegal spawns education?

Our taxes make up for the in-state discount. They don't pay taxes, so they shouldn't get in-state tuition.

Dude, you're talking about them like they're freaking sick scum rodents or something, they're human beings, man, you should start referring to them as such. And like I said, I have no problems with someone trying to get an education and without this, they most definitely wouldn't be able to afford one. So sometimes you just got to say ***** the law and these are one of those cases. Give them a freakin' break.

human beings who are in our country illegally, using our resources without paying for them (taxes). i'm glad they want to get an education-- they should pay the same rate as anyone else does.

immigration = great. keep america diverse, we are one of the few countries in the world with such lax immigration policies and that's fine. but since it is SO EASY to get here the legal way, i must say that i have very little sympathy for people who are illegal.

I'm sure there is a college in thier own country where they can afford the tuition. I think the in-state rate in Tijuana U. is two chickens and a goat.

lol whatever man, illegal immigration is never going to end until Mexico is able to provide jobs and thats only when. So complaining about it is certainly not going to do *****. Thats life and you're just going to have to live with it. And LOL @ ur little joke of how poor Mexico is, too bad you weren't born there.

lindz: is it really so easy to come here legally?? You don't think the millions of illegals in this country would have taken that route instead of having to watch their every step for the rest of their life? Please, don't give me that!! also, thanks for your help from awhile ago, I appreciate it.

well it's easier to come here illegaly than legally, that's for sure. but our process of being in the country legally is much easier than other countries. of course, it's much easier for someone from mexico to come here than to europe.

and you're welcome; good luck with the econ stuff-- i'm taking my LAST econ class EVER next semester and i am so glad about that haha.

I'm not usually too down on illegals as the people who hire them are as much or more to blame, and I have to say I have known a lot of people who hire Consuela or Louisa to clean their house or Jose to mow their lawns or trim their trees, based on word of mouth, and pay cash without asking for documents.
However, it does seem that paying taxes should have some perks, like a break on in-state tuition. Seems that kids of illegals should be treated as international students both for tuition and need- based financial aid decisions. If they are poor, they may still get aid. This would be fair until we come up with a decent "guest worker" program that would allow their parents to pay state income taxes legally and reap the benefits thereof.

I think people aren't really mad at poor illegal immigrants...hopefully they're mad at the government officials who write and sign these documets. The **** is the point? Why are we writing laws and signing documents for illegal immigrants instead of focusing our time on our own citizens? Like, what made the governor say, hey, I'm gonna sign this bill...you know what it was...it was a complete disregard for the LAW and a concern ONLY for votes and/or partisan power play. I hate politicians.

And my personal opinion:

Who CARES about the people mowing our lawns from Mexico??? Don't waste money doing random raids to boot them out of the country and don't waste money giving them in-state tuition at our public universities, either. Just ignore them and let them keep mowing the lawn, for God's sake.

Illegal immigrants' children who are born here are considered american. They should deserve the same thing we do.

But if they're illegal, how can they go to high school for at least 2 years?

Anyway, this might encourage them to go to college.
