AU v GWU

I just got accepted to GWU and AU. I am a transfer student and I am interested in Political Communications. Which school has better opportunities to run with? Which school has better dorms? Better financial aid? Better social opportunities? Any info that would help me decide would be great!

Hmm that's a tough call. You really can't go wrong either way, as both schools are strong in that area. I'm not sure what the financial aid situation is at GW, but it's great at American. They were very generous, at least in my case. The dorms here are great, as is the campus. It really depends on what you're looking for...while GW is more in the center of the city, it doesn't have a campus like American, which I see as a definite downfall. Either way though, you'll have an amazing time in dc...there's always something fun going on. It's definitely the perfect place to attend college. Good luck!

we've had this discussion in the past (i guess the threads have been eraced) but to sum it up (at least in my opinion) ranking wise, AU and GW are close (GW is ranked a bit higher) but in the end rankings don't matter as much as your personal gut opinion. Still each school is known for very strong politics programs, so either way... u can't go wrong.

Like we aren't talking about the difference between harvard and a community college... like GW and AU... they aren't THAT different.

Overall if you like a big school with a lot of people in a urban setting then GW is a better school for you

If you wan a smaller school, with a campus, in a surburbian setting... then AU is better.

I would reccomend visiting, shadowing a student, doing an overnight, in order to get a real feel of the campus. w/e school strikes your fancy is the best school for you.

good luck!!

How hard is it to schedule a visit once accepted as a freshmen? Just in case I would want to check it out again before accepting, just to be sure

not very hard at all. I didn't even schedule an appt... it was sort of like a spur of the moment thing to drop by AU... anyway they have tours like every hour and people are always there to help (unless u come at some weird time like 2 am... then all the tour guids are PARTYING!!!)
