Auburn engineering school requirements?

I want to become a software engineer but i live in Virginia and Virginia tech is a very difficult engineering program to get into so I had my eyes set on Auburn.
How hard is it to get into Auburn engineering? Does it have a good engineering program?
I slouched my freshmen and sophomore year with close to a 3.4 GPA (weighted) taking mostly college prep classess
However junior year I am taking 3 ap and 4 honors and putting in effort this year.
Only problem is the ap i am taking all fit under the “history” category.
Next year i plan on taking AP Calc AB, AP physics and AP gov to total my AP’s to 6.
I have not taken the SAT yet.

You won’t apply to the College of Engineering you apply to Auburn University- if you can get into the school you can get into the Engineering program, you have to complete some basic math/intro to engineering courses as a freshman and if passed and you’ve declared an engineering major - you’re in. It’s not difficult to get into Auburn. You should check out their Wireless Engineering degree. BTW my son was admitted to VT engineering early admission but chose Auburn - loved the atmosphere.

he chose Auburn over VT? and is that admission unique to Auburn or do other colleges do it

There are many universities that admit to the university first, and let students enter their chosen program. Some, like Michigan State, have a minimum college GPA to be admitted to certain engineering programs. Others have engineering supplements.

Absolutely - fit matters…you should visit the schools and decide from there. There are a lot of kids at Auburn that were admitted to VT (both of my sons roommates, one is from Alabama but the other is from Texas) and other highly rated schools - engineering ranking if ABET accredited doesn’t matter all that much - check out the career fairs and look at the companies that show up at Georgia Tech, Auburn, and probably Alabama are pretty much the same - likely the same as VT too.

No, you are admitted to Georgia Tech, not the college of engineering at GT. You are admitted to North Carolina State University, not the college of engineering, you are admitted to UGA not the college of engineering…I think VT was the only school he applied to that segregated admission between schools.

I would suggest a visit. It is very difficult to decide a personal fit for a university until you tour it. Sign up for both the general tour and the engineering specific one (we did one in the morning and one in the afternoon.) Listen and take notes. Then, when you take the SAT, and if you like Auburn, you can apply. You can also email your regional counselor and sit down with him/her in between tours on the day you visit to get all of your questions answered.
