Auburn - Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Students?

Hi All,

Does anyone have a sense of Auburn’s geographic population from the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic states?

D is interested in looking at Southern schools (we are from NJ). It seems a number of the bigger name schools (Alabama, Clemson, Auburn) seem to be attracting kids from up North. While I’m in no way fixated on the fact that there must be a large contingent of kids from the area, it would be interesting to know whether there is a decent number of kids from the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic. Her brother is at Vandy so that’s not really representative of the rest of the SEC schools in terms of the geographic distribution of the students.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Here is the student breakdown by state as reported on the Auburn website. Clearly the majority of students hail from Alabama, Georgia and Florida, but you will find a small presence of NE students. We also live in NJ and our son graduated from Auburn last year. It is a very friendly school and town so I think one can be very happy there no matter where home is.

Here’s a great tool for comparing the number of out-of-state students at various colleges and universities:

Thanks for the feedback. Very helpful!

My D is a freshman at AU. We have been shocked by the number of kids from outside of the southeast. Her suite mate is from Denver, across the hall…Orange Co, CA and Boca Raton. She brought home a friend from her sorority from Maryland. We sat with another friend from New Jersey. I always ask these girls the same set of questions…“how did you find Auburn” and the response in generally the same…" I wanted to go to school in the south, I looked at a bunch of schools with my parents and when I visited Auburn, everyone was so friendly that I knew it was the place for me." All the kids that I have met from outside the SE have loved the school (might help that the fall season has been a ton of fun with all the football).
If your D decides to come to Auburn, you will find a really friendly environment.

Auburn has a history of having students from all over. I attended many years ago and had friends from Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina, etc.

For some reason NJ seems to send more than its fair share of students to Auburn. I remember noticing that when I was there. Don’t know why. Anyway, they seemed happy at Auburn and we liked them as well as anybody else.
