Audition Experience

Hi!!

I’m new to this but I was hoping that someone that either attends Pace or just has auditioned for them could discuss their audition experience.

I passed the pre-screen, but I just want to make sure I have all my ends covered considering Pace is one of my top choices!!

Hey there!

I literally just got home a few hours ago from my Pace audition in Chicago. I got there about an hour early so that I could settle in, warm up, etc. because there were a TON of kids in my audition slot (about 35). Because Pace was under some time constraints, they actually had us only do either one 16 bar cut and one 32 bar cut, 2 16 bar cuts, or they would just cut you off when they felt appropriate. This was a bit difficult because we only had pre-recorded accompaniment but I was definitely able to make it work and they were totally friendly and understanding! They also said that they weren’t able to hear monologues because of time, but that they would be going off of what we sent in for our pre-screen. So if you felt good about your pre-screen monologue, then you should be set!

The dance portion was a typical musical theater style dance, no crazy tap or ballet. One of the things the choreographer emphasized was to have fun and act, because even if you weren’t a great dancer, she said she could make you one. But enthusiasm and spunk and acting were definitely the stars of the dance piece. We got to perform it twice in groups of 5, and it took about an hour, maybe an hour and a half. Then that was it! I had heard of some cases where there were “callbacks” within the audition, but that wasn’t the case for us (probably because of time, and we were off-campus).

Overall, I felt really comfortable and relaxed at the audition. Pace is definitely one of my dream schools, so I’m definitely in the same boat as you! Just exude confidence and show them who you are as a performer. If you’re not a dancer but you’re a kick-ass singer/actor, show them that! If your dancing is the strongest, give them some killer dance moves!

Hope this helped, good luck with your audition!
