Cal is not surrounded by a hippie culture. Have you ever seen an asian, hippie engineer?

...Haha, oh yes, let's choose UVA because their law school is ranked # 8, while Berkeley is ranked # 11 and UCLA is # 15. I'm sure in the world of law these tiny smiggins of a difference is going to make or break your career....not

Saying that she should pick UVA because their law school is a few rankings away from the others is the same as saying she should go to Berkeley because it's the number one public while UVA is only the 2nd or 3rd best.

I still vote Cal but I enjoy being a brat. ;)

UVA hands down
If your going to study abroad you might as well go to a place where real culture belongs.

And Berkeley and Los Angeles don't have any recognizable culture. No. None.

Well, I'd say the fact that fans of each school are vehemently their university is a good sign you can't really go too wrong with any of them. ;)

Of the three, I would think Charlottesville has the least culture, how ever you'd like to define that. If anything, few places have more culture than Berkeley. And it's not like LA's lacking.

Agreed.

Aussie...go to UCB or UCLA...how dare you ask where you'd go? Its an obvious choice...haha

I think she should spend a month in each.

Yee-Haw.

IzzieBear is trying to flirt with the aussie! wonderful. anyways come to uva buddy. you'll find real girls who don't waste there times on CC(UVA has voted fittest campus(that means fittest girls!!) in the country).

Uhm..considering that I am female..and interested in men only, I am hardly flirting. The Aussie is a girl. I'm just being friendly and quite bored. FYI, I may post on CC, but I'm no unfit, unattractive girl.

i live in virginia... its the dulllest place on earth, i assure you. Go to Berkley, its the best school rank wise on the list, and california is the best place to be in the summer.

Actually, I think you should scrap your US plans altogether and go to Oxford or the Sorbonne

Hold on... if Izzie's automatically not fit because she posts on CC... what does that say about the rest of us?

Haha...that makes us all lard asses...there are some funny posts here. Aussie, make it to California! There is a reason why people flock and migrate to the golden state. People come here because there is so much to do and see. Charlottesville, Virginia..a destination hot spot? I think not.

Actually C'Ville is a pretty hot spot. John Grisham, Sissy Spacek, and several other celebs have large country estates in the area. It came in #1 in a recent ranking of best cities.

Perhaps you can find out in advance which school would let you enroll in the clases you are interested in. The schools are all great institutions but if you are only going to be here for one semester you should research the classes offered at the time you'll be here. Sometimes there are problems getting in to the classes or maybe you'll find a particular professor you might want to work with. Availability of classes will determine where you will go and then just relax. There are wonderful things to do at each of the schools.

This is great advice. Keep in mind that with budget cuts at the UCs, so went the ahem robustness of class offerings each quarter.

Oh yeah, that's another consideration. Do you mind quarters? UCLA is on the quarter/trimester system, which means 10 weeks (not 15) of instruction three times a year. It's fast, fast, fast.

The robustness of courses are still at the UC's, although perhaps not as much as they used to be. Still, most intellectually driven people will find about 200 classes that they wish they could take.

Berkeley has a legal studies major, which is as close to law as many can go in the US undergraduate level. There is also rhetoric at berkeley (great for law). All three schools can give you classes that apply to your interests or ones that you can take for fun, and there will be MANY of each category, far too many for you to take advantage of.

The three cultures are distinctly different, no question about it. Also, the time of year would determine the weather, so you might consider that. Is UVA on quarters or semesters? Berkeley is on semesters, and, as UCLAri mentioned, UCLA is on semesters.

Perhaps working with a particular professor might interest you. UCLA has great linguistic/philosophy studies, and if you can/want to take some of their classes about language, that might be interesting or great for law studies. UCLA is known to be one of the if not the premiere place to study for this area. Or perhaps you could see if Professor Searle is offering a phil of language class at berkeley. He is famous and blah blah blah okay i'll stop.

All three schools rock- go with your gut.

Which says berkeley.

I'm kidding.

UCLA is not on the semester system.

UC Berkeley is the only UC with semesters.
