Australian Universities

<p>rachel, it's like the requirements for Americans or IB students. You have to have specific SAT's and AP stuff with that proper GPA or minimum IB results. And those come out in June or July so when you apply, Australia (and Canada to an extent and England) gives you a conditional offer if you don't have official results yet. <em>scowl</em> I got bombed by three UK uni's because of that. My actual IB results weren't up to snuff.</p>

<p>umm why is the batchelor of arts harder to get into than the combined science arts degree? for domestic students its the opposite...</p>

<p>oh...
i dont have IBs.
but my sat is 1410 and my gpa is 3.7 uw. idk if u guys need to know this lol, im just showing you where i stand. </p>

<p>does it matter if i don't have any relatives in AUS, because the application has a part about a guardian for internationals. perhaps I should wait to apply until I am 18?</p>

<p>does anyone know how long an admissions decision takes? say, i apply april 30 for the july semester. around when would i get my decision?</p>

<p>Im sorry but i am unsure of the international process. </p>

<p>As a local student there are two peroids a year where you can apply and you will find out a few months after applying for the beginning of year intake and a month later for mid year intake. It is usually done online. </p>

<p>I assume international intake would be similar. Check with the universities. The staff should all be back from summer holidays within a week or so.</p>

<p>groovy
thanks sid19</p>

<p>Can any Australians tell me whether it is possible for Americans to garner a place in the Australian residential colleges at the University of Sydney like St Andrews <a href="http://www.standrewscollege.edu.au/index.shtml"&gt;http://www.standrewscollege.edu.au/index.shtml&lt;/a> Or do Americans have to live off campus or in the "International House?"</p>

<p>As far as i know at UNSW you can go into any house as an international. Colleges tend to even give preference to international students i have heard. I am not certain about Sydney uni but i assume that its the same. The website does not specify that it has to be a local student. The old colleges at sydney uni are quite nice!</p>

<p>all the residential spots at usydney seem to be filled by both interntl and residen. but im sure if you look more on the site, or ask the school maybe you can find out.</p>

<p>Rachel,
I'm doing BSc at Unimelb, I'd recommend Melbourne for Science or Arts in Australia, imo this programs are really world class. In Australia our Science studies equal your Arts and Science and Arts equals your Liberal Arts, so thats the terminology differences. For most degrees in Australia you can enter just as a Science or Arts student without choosing a major... usually it is best however to research possible majors so you dont have to redo some 1st year prereqs for them which can set you back time and cash if your an Int'l student. Arts at melbuni is harder to get into for general public than Science, I can look up exact scores but its something like top 92% for Arts and 85% for Science, you can work out what the average grade is in the US but ours is just a breakdown of all graduating high schoolers into percentiles. I think as long as you have decent scores you shouldn't have any worries, as Melbourne Uni accepts lots of Int'l students. All the best, and I can probably help you out on stuff about Melb Uni.
Good Luck!</p>
